Hey awesome post but I have a suggestion for you. You should seriously give some thought to adding relevant videos in your posts. That's given that countless folks like me enjoy videos and have an understanding of the topic superior.

Hi, i read your blog from time to time and i own a similar one and i was just curious if you get a lot of spam responses? If so how do you reduce it, any plugin or anything you can suggest? I get so much lately it's driving me mad so any support is very much appreciated.

Have you ever thought about writing an e-book or guest authoring on other websites? I have a blog centered on the same topics you discuss and would love to have you share some stories/information. I know my readers would value your work. If you are even remotely interested, feel free to send me an e mail.

@Somey "I fear you’re focusing too much on the “We’re going to delete Wikiversity” part and too little on the "…because we seem to be losing control of it” part.

It's an interesting thought, Somey, that abusive, manipulative, and ethically challenged admins would trash something if they felt they were losing control of it.

This is interesting, but does not actually describe the Wikiversity that I call home.

I admit I was absent from WV for this period, only making small changes to my research projects, but not dipping into the pool.

But this all seems to the drama of outsiders. We emulate classrooms, do research on our own in our own ways, and donate time guiding what appear to be the hopelessly clueless mass of the world that happen to computers and access.

It may not seem to be the biggest deal in the World, but it is a good site. We don't have a legal system to corrupt as the WP does, we just scream across the campfire. I attempt to be the calm one.

One thing I do know, the WP is the big bully on the block, and constantly tell the WVers that we should always be thinking about ways to pay homage, or we will be paying through the nose. Civilized society is all about mafia, and there is nothing I can do about it, as much as I try.

One thing we should do is popularize the creation extensions for WP articles to the WV so that the WV can host OR that isn't allowed on the WP. Information can then be crystalized into formats acceptable for the WP.

A good example is the Neolithic article that I contributed to a little on my return from the Rainbow Gathering this summer.

I was successfully living neolithically for a week, as we all were, (see johnbessa.com), experiencing everything that natives experience, and I could add a lot to that page. But it would literally be OR, and much on the page is worse that OR--it is just made up!

For instance those folks think that trade results from stored crops resulting from sedentary life. Ha! Like Native Americans didn't trade before they got forced onto the reservations! Like we ourselves didn't experience at the Rainbow trade circle!

That's what the wikiversity is for.

All I can say is thank God I wasn't on the Wikiversity when the circus was there! Everything that transpired was the work of outsiders, every single thing! And we lost a good leader because of it. Shame to the outside World!

Just came across the post while looking for more info on the situation, since I only just found out about it (I generally only look into what Wikipedians are talking about for laughs, not because I actually care). There's one very important fact that wasn't mentioned in this post: Wikiversity is hosted by Wikimedia, but it's not supposed to be run by them. It's somewhat unique compared to most wiki-style projects in that it's meant to actually be an open sort of project run by the community from the ground up (from what I've read, at least), with the rules and procedures being decided on not by the Wikimedia Foundation but by the Wikiversity community itself. In a sense, it's like taking the wiki concept to a whole other level, making not only the information included on the wiki but also the underlying wiki itself something that anyone can be truly involved in.

That alone makes Wales quite a bit more of an obvious villain that he seems to be otherwise: he went to a site meant to be run by a community that never consented to give him such broad and overreaching power, he completely bypassed the rules and processes agreed upon by that community (which more or less completely destroys what makes Wikiversity unique in the first place), and when someone else tried to reverse what he did so that the proper procedures could be followed he removed that person's ability to enforce those procedures.

Given that this is the case, I think the Wikiversity's entirely in the right to be as pissed as they are. It's meant to be a community founded by a fully democratic process, and Wales bypassed that process completely to remove something that he objected to. That makes it pretty obvious why people are now pushing rather strongly against him and trying to have his privileges as a founder revoked - just knowing that Wales has that kind of power and can wield it whenever he likes and dictate rules to this community more or less destroys its entire ability to have any sort of meaning or significance.
