This ought to help provide some insights into the Institutional POV at Wikipedia.

Would it be safe to assume that this is primarily meant to "offload" the sources of the more bitter and divisive politics-related conflicts onto another site, where they'll be out of the spotlight and less likely to make Wikipedia look like a big flame-war zone?

It should be just a matter of time before we start seeing exhortations for people to "take it to Campaigns Wiki" whenever someone starts a political argument.

Topic excluded from Wikipedia might be directed to his for-profit Wikia pages, where he can earn profit by use of Google ads. He might be inclined to promote policies that exclude content from Wikipedia knowing such excluded content may be accepted at his for-profit Wiki.

That's another good point - as Wikipedia's growth rate starts to slow down, moving the heavy-action topics (along with their more heated arguments) to another site that's been carrying Google ads from the start is definitely a good business move. I just took a look at the Recent Changes over there, and it's already more active there than most of the minor wikis I've seen, and there's no shortage of partisanship either. No doubt that will be encouraged there, if only for that reason.

I might also add that launching the site on the Fourth of July strikes me as a rather cynical, not to mention blatantly opportunistic, thing to do.

In my experience, as many here will know, it isn't that sort of conflict that raises the temperature. Maybe whether Seamus Heaney was born in Derry or Londonderry is vaguely political, but whether Max Born was British isn't.

Hey - I've got promoted. I'm a junior member now. How did that happen?

I think there are now two threads on this topic, which should be merged continued at http://wikipediareview.com/index.php?showtopic=2513&hl=I think that the combat and intrigue that surround the controversial articles are a leading cause of Wiki-addiction, and the new high-combat zone will be a magnet for the addicts. Therefore it is probably not a coincidence that the new site has Google ads all along the right margin. This may be a milestone in Jimbo's master plan.
