The observation that "a majority of women don't care about an online encyclopedia" is neither particularly insightful nor helpful; after all, a majority of men clearly don't either. It's just that the fraction of men who do is higher than the fraction of women that do, and (apparently for Jimmy and Co.) this is a problem.
I don't think the gender balance can be fixed in a hurry, if it can be fixed at all. It's existed for a long time. Back in 1992, on IRC and usenet, the ratio was unbalanced as it is now in 2011. Stopping short of advocating a quota system of new editors based on gender, I doubt anything can really be done.
