I wish you folks would just ignore McBride. He probably loves all this attention.
Is WR for discussing Wikipedia's problems, or is it a wiki-celebrity-trash-talk hangout like the TMZ Celeb-Watch? It can't be both, because the latter drags down and devalues the former. (And from past experience, once a forum settles on the trash talk, the trash takes over and pushes out everything else.)
Well? Is McBride a nerd hunched over a PC in a dark room, or is he the Jon Gosselin of Wikipedia? Either way, why spend any time on his RFAs?

Who says you can't have it both ways? In any event, you can't have a web site like Wikipedia without mentioning the diverse personalities contributing to its follies. After all, the site doesn't run itself. As for trash, we can't say anything nice here either. I once tried to start a thread citing the positive influences in Wikipedia and that was shot down as "Barnstars R Us."

Probably a little of both, but either way, at least MZMcBride is a somewhat controversial figure - he deleted so many pages during his previous adminship tenure that this new RfA could almost be seen as a kind of referendum on "deletionism," and he also made quite a few enemies, for better or worse. He's also a WR member (though I suppose that was also true of NuclearWarfare.) Of course, the whole inclusionism vs. deletionism thing is still a manufactured red herring, but it might be of interest to some of our less-cynical readers.

I once tried to start a thread citing the positive influences in Wikipedia and that was shot down as "Barnstars R Us." What, this thread? You took the wrong approach there - you should have started with a list of people you felt should be admins but aren't/weren't, rather than just asking other people to make suggestions for such a list. It still wouldn't have been particularly appropriate for WR, but better than just popping up and saying "let's make a list of people we like!"... IOW, it's OK to exhibit fanboy behavior yourself, but you don't want to be seen trying to encourage fanboy behavior in others - that's sort of insulting for many of us, though I realize you didn't mean it to be. And I'm glad you haven't just up and left us after seeing what I posted in the NuclearWarfare thread, regardless. (Maybe you will now, though, after reading this... )

QUOTE(Apathetic @ Fri 28th August 2009, 9:09am) QUOTE(A Horse With No Name @ Fri 28th August 2009, 8:58am) So what is it? Do RfA regulars have incredibly short memories? Does time heal all wounds? Or did MZM and NW successfully game the system prior to their return engagements?
I think MZMcBride did some self-reflection and made a genuine change for the better. I used to think he was a right ass (and he probably had the same opinion of me =), but now we get along swimmingly. Here's a pretty dumb comment: QUOTE Oppose - I don't like you.!! (being honest here; unlike the others above me who gave dumb reasons for opposing you instead of coming out clean and saying what I just said) ..--Warpath (talk) 05:31, 28 August 2009 (UTC) Cometstyles turned into a bitter little troll. Ignore him. Everyone else does. QUOTE(A Horse With No Name @ Fri 28th August 2009, 3:48pm) Hahaha. The Golden Anus. That's just McBride being, well, an asshole for lulz. Hahahaha.

For what it's worth, I use a Mac and have quite nice posture. (I'm not sure what that says about my nerdiness.) There's a cute "social order" Venn diagram available here if you really want to debate the semantics of the labels you love. Also, please link unfamiliar terms or at least provide more context; I had no idea who the hell Jon Gosselin was, though I am (vaguely) familiar with Jon & Kate Plus 8.

Considering those of us arriving from out of state are staying in the same hotel, which has a nice indoor pool, I assume poolside pics are about guaranteed. Just not sure you'll see them.

Okay, I confess...I am really Shappy! You would never of guessed, eh? Now, where's the pool party? I'll bring a keg and a bale of hay!

Considering this is a thread about MZMcBride (a proud grammarphile), though, I think it would be appropriate for me to throw in a s/never of/never have. QUOTE(RMHED @ Sun 30th August 2009, 6:21pm) Surely you must have worked out Horsey's Wikipedia ID by now!

I'm amazed that some people actually consider MZMcBride's joke with Lara and the bot userpage bigger concerns than the ArbCom cases, highlighting only those in their opposition rather than the cases, and one person even switched from support to oppose over them. Some also seem to find the answers to questions 14 and 15 concerning, too. Is there something I'm missing here? It'll be disappointing if those generate enough opposition to sink the RfA. In addition, there seems to be a significant amount of "he doesn't need the tools" opposes, despite the clarification to the answer to question 1. I thought that oppose rationale had been declared as nonsense years ago, yet people still seem to use it (and at the same time, worry about the declining number of active admins).

I've been opposed three times now for my signature style, yet never once have I been opposed for the Palin RFAR, heck I blocked Betacommand the week of my RFB and no one said anything. I really wouldn't go out on the limb of saying RFA is a consistent or accurate process, its just the only thing we have to work with.
