_ Biographies of Living Persons _ Robbie Robinson - real or hoax?

Posted by: milowent

The great minds here are well-attuned to BLP shenanigans when they are not perpetrating them. Does this article appear to be a hoax or what?

Utterly, yes. Clearly someone from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Upkildare is having a good ol' laugh here. And yeah, I know local Irish music reasonably well ...

A cursory Google search for this guy yields zilch. I'm finding some mentions of his former band "Bad Habitz" but no official websites or fan sites. I think they are a local Irish band that plays at clubs or something. Nothing big and certainly not worthy enough as an encyclopedic subject.

yes, there appear to be a few "bad habitz" cover bands out there, not sure if one connects to someone by this name or not. User Upkildaire was more thorough than most hoaxers by creating/modifying supporting articles.

thanks for confirming what i thought.

Supposedly Upkildare (T-C-L-K-R-D) is Robbie Robinson. He uploaded http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Rob12.jpg and wrote the BLP on himself.

Someone trying to gain fame?

hoax articles doesn't generally earn much fame, because very few people stumble across these articles. i only found it as part of a project to source BLPs. so more likely its just goofing around.

I found one cursory mention...

QUOTE
The author is at pains to point out and highlight that Kildare has a number of famous natives with singers Damien Rice and former No Sweat drummer Robbie Robinson also featuring on the list. The latter is a somewhat surprise entry but the author provided justification for his inclusion.

"Robbie Robinson was included as he is a very influential musician and a very well-known drummer, so I thought he deserved to make the final 15 ,above politicians etc. I sought a representative cross section," said Mr Montague.

Robbie currently plays with the Smugglers Blues Band. In 2007, he joined White Flag Films, where he was a screen writer for the movie Seer starring Tara O'Neill released last year.

even this mention seems suspicious!
