One more slot to fill in the ArbCom elections:
QUOTE
Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry standing down as an arbitrator
On Wednesday, I was accepted in a full-time job as the Office & Development Manager for Wikimedia UK. This is a permanent role based in London. As there is a potential conflict of interest between the two roles, especially with regard to Arbitration cases and ban appeals that involve UK Chapter members, the Wikimedia UK Board have asked me to step down in order to maintain complete transparency. I agree with their position. It is therefore with great regret that I am announcing my intention to stand down as an arbitrator on 31 December 2011. Oh how very admirable. Clap, clap, clap.

If only people realised just how many corrupt little internits are lusting ofter this kind of job as they smiley, slurp and dribble their way towards an eventual guaranteed lifetime adminship. It doesn't matter if these worst of the world's people ever reach the salaried job - it's all in the dream, and the depths they'll go to to achieve it.

Chapters are the real evil (more so than the encyclopedia), as I've always said. Gradually we hear more and more about them.

According to Malleus Fatuorum "What exactly does the WMF do, except provide nice well-paid jobs for their cronies?" dry.gif

The interesting thing is that WMF does not really need to have paid employees, or at least not as many as they have now. There are plenty of volunteers who'd be happy to do the job, if for nothing else, at least to have a free travel. After all thousands of volunteers see their purpose in spending hours on wikipedia fighting vandalism, and they get nothing in return except a barnstar or two. On the other hand volunteers, who'd work for WMF could be awarded with a free trips to wikimania or some nice conferences like this last one in India.

Ah, Chase, what a downgrade! From first being a Royal Navy officer biggrin.gif , then holding even more exiting position of English wikipedia's arbitrator hrmph.gif , you now got a very boring job with Wikimedia UK. ermm.gif

BTW it is interesting that to step down of being an arbitrator was not Chase's own idea. He was asked to step down by Wikimedia UK Board.

It's especially interesting to me that he thinks there's a conflict of interest between being an arbitrator and working for WMUK, given that the WMUK asserted that it has an essential role in maintaining the quality and reliability of Wikipedia's content as part of their Charity Commission application. You'd think they'd want to strengthen their ability to perform the power that is critical to their status as a charity, not diminish it.

Perhaps he's hoping to follow Jimmy's example: a graceful "public retirement", followed by back-room string pulling for the hot chicks (or dudes, perhaps) that show up at the WMUK shindigs.

It's not so much COI, it's probably more that they don't want to be accused of it, which is different, and shows how paranoid they (rightly) are.

If there is any COI over Chapters, it will probably be to do with the creepy fact that they encourage non-Wikipedia people to be part of them, which will eventually of course include people who are actually banned from WP - if it hasn't already. So he'll be working for profit with a banned apealler.

And they probably don't want an WMF employee/arbitrator with such a stupid WP name. Actually scrub that - it probably wouldn't bother them.

What I found a bit odd was that he made it sound like an after-thought after they accepted him.

That they hired the little troll, and gave him a salary, is beyond disgusting.

I've looked at his edit patterns. He gets his rocks off blocking people, with the ever-popular
fake-checkuser claims. And he oversights some of them, to insure opacity.

Possibly it does.

At least 'Pancake' has, I think I saw, recently been promoted in many people's minds from someone who probably didn't exist to being a person who, I think, actually appeared in public and did stuff.

That might help her CV and credibility.

Sorry if I got any of that wrong...

Not so much "abandons ship" as, "transfers to submarine service" methinks.

Wow, I've never seen one of those before. No user contributions. What could the rationale possibly be? That Eladram's edits were so terrible that the community must be shielded from even seeing them?

Maybe that account never made any contributions but was identified solely from the IP used to create it.

That account appears to be just one of many created by a sockpuppet farmer and blocked by Chase Me. They had no edits because they had made no edits, not because anything had been oversighted.
