I wonder why arbcom clerk AGK finds it necessary to edit through proxies? Particularly when it thoroughly messes up the edits.

For example, in this edit to Wikipedia talk:Requests for arbitration which still stands, most of someone else's edit is deleted and
QUOTE
Proxy-Connection: keep-alive

Cache-Control: max-age=0
is inserted along with other weird stuff.

Then there's a string of edits to Jossi's talk page starting here that does the same thing.

When I was a checkuser & admin, I used to block people who used proxies like that, for purely technical reasons: defective proxies damage content and people who use them need to stop.

Of course, nowadays the idea of blocking a Highly Valued User for any reason, even a technical one, is anathema.

WP user page - talk
check - contribs

Anyone know why that kind of text would appear in his edits so many times?

Because he is editing through a defective proxy of some sort.

For the record, AGK attributes the problem to "some weird mess-up by FireFox for Mac. In fact, I'm not connecting via a proxy per se; simply using a standard router from a major ISP."

In a most remarkable coincidence, there is currently only one page that shows up with WP's search engine that contains the above mentioned phrase "Proxy-Connection: keep-alive Cache-Control: max-age 0". It's an edit by User:Ocdcntx to Wikipedia talk:Welcoming committee/Welcome to Wikipedia that screws up a earlier edit made by Anthony_cfc(AGK's previous user name)!

Google though points to a half-dozen other instances. An alternate explanation may be that transparent proxies used by ISPs or other entities are causing the errors.
