How does user Calton (T-C-L-K-R-D) get away with having a user page like that?

QUOTE(Calton)
The above obviously includes the various trolls, spammers, quacks, greedheads, and crackpots -- and their enablers -- who hang out at ED and WR. I also seem to have attracted the unwanted attention of a crackpot spamming "psychologist" calling himself "Wyatt Ehrenfels", that indefinitely banned (for good reason) spammer Gregory Kohser, and various indefinitely banned anger-management poster children. If you're one of the those various trolls, spammers, quacks, greedheads, crackpots, and/or their enablers, welcome! Now get lost.

This is just a blatant attack on two named Wikipedians.

He's already been blocked a number of times for "Persistent incivility and taunting of other users".

It seems that others have objected to it before but for some reason it has been allowed to remain. I thought giving a free pass to certain admins to insult banned editors by their real names was no longer allowed in Wikipedia. I guess I was wrong.

Calton isn't an admin, but the fact that it was reverted back to about 7-8 times is astonishing.

Drama Report

Since Kato's post of 7:36am (UTC) the offending text has been :
[1] Removed by IP 78.102.45.128. First post using that IP, but apparently the Feds know who it is.
[2] Replaced by admin Gb (T-C-L-K-R-D) (This user has an alternate account here for use on public or shared computers). See fun fun fun on talkpage. Heh.
[3] Removed again by very semi-retired admin Alison (T-C-L-K-R-D) . This is a privacy/BLP issue as far as she's concerned. So there.

How disappointing--I thought Calton had left after he was blocked for one of his temper tantrums late last year. Anyway, isn't he supposed to be under some kind of civility restriction? Wasn't that agreed on ANI?

I figured by his imperious behavior that Calton was an admin. Anyway, it looks like Calton was trying to shame Greg and the other guy by naming them on his userpage. Absolutely bush league behavior. The only thing more embarrassing to see is that a few admins were trying to help him do it.

So Alison has made it stick. Hullaballoo Wolfowitz (T-C-L-K-R-D) removed the same offense 3 times in a 3 week period. He was reverted each time by an admin and was thanked with a 48 hour block for disruption.

This is a guy who's been around for 3 years (albeit with a 2 year break in the middle), and spends virtually all his time repairing biographies of living people. Arbcom dickhead Coren declines his first unblock request with the rationale "the blocking admin makes a good argument that your behavior has been nonetheless disruptive."

The second unblock request begins with "I'm sorry. This is Kafkaesque. It is not disputed that I did not make the edit for which I was blocked." The very special Sandahl replies "You say you are Kafkaesque, if you are User:Kafkaesque you need to need to make this unblock request in this account name."

If any of you wikipediacs are looking to be nudged towards thw WP exit, here you go.

You'll have to admit that is very funny. In a mindless, beaurocratic, machinelike Kafkaesque sort of way, of course. (IMG:smilys0b23ax56/default/smile.gif)

Where else can you get this sort of stuff, except maybe the military or the DMV (where we Americans go to register our cars, although our legislators don't have to use the ones we use, so they're not subjected to this. Rather the same with their health care.)

Well, it seems Mr. Wales himself has picked up this cause. See his comment on my talk page here. Exciting, I'm sure.

Wales also seems to think User:Gb should hand in his admin bit.[1]

Well, that didn't take long once it was pushed up the ladder! Good job, Jimbo.

I didn't block User:78.102.139.57 (who you link to above). I did block User:78.102.45.141, however, and for 1 week no less. Although the two IPs are obviously the same person, I can understand the sentiment and likely wouldn't make the same block.

Yes. Mr. Sandahl, who wouldn't recognize the term "Kafkaesque" as he's no fan of Kafka (being much too verbose for his tastes) is clearly a prize numptard who needs, nay, begs to have a hobnailed boot planted upside his arse. Theoretically speaking, of course.

...in the sense of "reasonable" as in "Be reasonable: do it my way!" (which, I believe, was the text of a Mad magazine sticker distributed as part of a sheet of clever-slogan stickers inserted into one of their 1970s giant-size special issues).

But we all think that way; for instance, I've never had the strong dislike of David Gerard many of you have, because he actually more-or-less took my side in the big BADSITES wars of a couple of years ago... which made him "reasonable" by my own definition!

You're right.

When I first saw it, I thought it was someone taking the piss, but it now seems like that reply was genuine. Sandahl (T-C-L-K-R-D) really did say that in seriousness, thinking that the guy was User:Kafkaesque. Just when you think the Irony factor on Wikipedia couldn't go any further.

Calton should have been banned years ago. It's great that he can't get away with everything he wants anymore, but the fact that the guy is allowed to edit at all is a sad, sad statement. He is absolute poison, and anyone who behaved so outrageously while taking a stance in opposition to the power structure would be banned within a day.

Yeah, but the funny thing is that Wales is actually on the rights side of these issues. If Jimbo has no special status, then all proposals will fail to achieve consensus at the hands of Bloc "Anyone Can Edit." I hope that he does retain special status--just about anything would be better than the oppressive stagnancy of Wikipedia's "consensus" governance.

Regardless of whether he happens to be right on some broad issues, if his special status is well-respected, he is more inclined to make unilateral decisions, which often involve abuse of individuals for wiki-political reasons. Does anyone remember how, back in late 2007, he was talking ominously about an upcoming purge (while simultaneously sending me threatening e-mails)? That never happened, because Jimbo's community standing declined. I'll take community consensus over Jimbo autocracy any day, but what I'd really like to see is a proper governance system in which major issues can be decided according to a defined percentage, such as 55% support.

Jimbo is not a leader. In the absence of sufficient income for a jet, he's in it for the "social capital". Once the direction of the wind starts to change, I reckon one can rely on Jimbo to follow.

Simply do a JzG and score out the "RE-" bit. Better still, score out "TIRED" and everyone will scratch their heads wondering what the fuck "SEMI-RE" means.

Obviously what happened there was a kind of reflex action. He knew what he was doing, but he watched, in horror, as his hand reached for the mouse/keyboard and did the shit, and he couldn't stop it. He's a bit of a loonie, I think, and should be in care. Also, his name reminds me of something I heard once ..... "OK, my dog is stupid, but he can hold his own in a fight with a badger".

I know... I can't believe it either.

The more I think about it, the more I try to make sense of it this way:

Jimbo is not a leader. In the absence of sufficient income for a jet, he's in it for the "social capital". Once the direction of the wind starts to change, I reckon one can rely on Jimbo to follow.

While that certainly could be the explanation for Jimbo's recent attack of reasonableness, I think it more likely that one or more of the big ticket donors that the WMF has recently acquired have been bringing pressure to bear on him to clean up Wikipedia. The irony here is that it is the most ideologically hard line wikipediots that are resisting reform, and Jimbo was the one most responsible for creating that ideology to begin with.

Calton has not edited since the personal attacks were removed from his user page. How will Wikipedia manage to do without his services in tagging user pages for speedy deletion? It's remarkable how Calton was able to find a niche on Wikipedia that so neatly suited his hateful and vindictive personality. Simply editing articles would bore him to tears, I suppose; he has to find a way to annoy and frustrate people.

Someone should explain BLP to Badger Drink. This is an important one.

Has everyone seen the SF Weekly article about Calton? (Well, partly about Calton. Mostly about Griot.)

Calton's rants about the article are quite a hoot.)

Oh, it was hilarious to see Boodlesthecat in the article, too! He was blocked for a year last Christmas because of his shenanigans. It is also funny to see Blow of Light mentioned as well -- that is one person you never trust with a secret!

He's probably busy writing Amazon reviews on books written by people he doesn't like. One victim writes

That or Jimmy had a private chat with him after his public chat with Gb. Gb resigned shortly thereafter.

Hey! Nice find!

Apparently, CALTON managed to find something called the Administrator's Noticeboard, and explicitly requested Wikipedia's authorities delete the references to his name. And his wish was granted. I issued a similar appeal for references to "Wyatt Ehrenfels" with respect to potentially destructive libel from CALTON, but Wikipedia's administrators ignored the request. I can't think of better evidence for corruption at the top.

(Jesus. Ehrenfels is really, really pissed off. And I don't blame him.....)
