_ Wikipedia in Blogland _ Teen pornography continues unabated

Posted by: thekohser

Despite Jimbo Wales' best efforts to personally stamp out the child porn on Wikimedia Commons, the problem seems to persist, according to http://www.examiner.com/wiki-edits-in-national/wikimedia-commons-cannot-control-teen-pornography.

Nonetheless, the guy seems to write a damn good article that's worth sending to the FBI.

The Wikipedia culture is one that prides itself on being open minded and un-censored. Objectionable images at Wikipedia get an automatic protection under the banner of "anti-censorship", which has led to thousands of images of porn residing on Wikipedia servers with negligible editorial value. In fact, anyone endeavoring to exercise editorial judgment by deleting surplus porn will fail. Just ask Jimbo Wales;

http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ALog&type=delete&user=Jimbo+Wales&page=&year=2010&month=5&tagfilter=
(The red links are porn images he deleted, the blue links are his deletions that have been reversed, because those images are so vital, apparently.)

Wikipedians think censorship is evil when it comes to deleting porn, but they absolutely love it when it's used to silence critics, like this article's author who's been banned from Wikipedia's mailing lists and chatrooms;

Show me an image of a man sucking his own wiener and I'll show you a hundred frothing at the mouth wikipedians smacking their fists on the table, demanding that it be used to illustrate an article. (warning, not safe for work; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autofellatio )

How many of those 13,500 visitors are in possession of a Wikisposure card? laugh.gif

There are more problems:
Where is the uploader located?
Is he or she aware of American laws, which regulate the Californian hosts of the Wikimedia Foundation, regarding this material?
Is he or she the local laws where they are?
What if he's a 18 year old kid in Spain and his 15-year old girlfriend (age of consent in Spain is 13) gave consent to have the pictures taken?
Who does the FBI go after if it's illegal material, and the contributor isn't in USA?

On one hand you have spread open, shaved teen vagina; on the other hand, you him posting pictures of some fat, middle aged man's hairy gut, legs and ball bag.

That's the Wikipedia for you.
