The bidding war over the soiled garb of Jimbo Wales has escalated. The items of clothing are being sold by scorned ex-girlfriend Rachel Marsden, presumably as an amusing revenge attack. Our own Wordbomb has been joined by a rival bidder known as John Kerouac. Kerouac claims to be running a campaign of Let's Get Jimmy's Stuff Back to Him with Dignity.

Latest bid is at $102

eBay blogs? Now that's just silly.

"john_kerouac" apparently buys Russian collectibles and only occasionally remembers to leave feedback. If he's the Tom Hayes of TomBomb.com, he's a WP redlink, and possibly this low-volume user, who added him. This user also attempted to create an article on "Beme" which was deleted as a neologism. Compare Tom Hayes' blog, "Just how fast can this beme circle the globe, enter Wikipedia as a new term and leap off out of the blogosphere and into the mainstream?" See also this post, citing the short-lived entry on "beme." Sad. Another "beme" stifled by deletionists.

Anyhow, maybe we should pool with WordBomb. I pledge $10--and if you can't trust a pseudonym's claims, what can you trust?

Lovin' the profile, WB. "What I lack in feedback I more than make up for in charm."

We should also ask Rachel Marsden if she'd like to donate the sale proceeds to Danny Wool's Sri Lanka project.

http://allswool.blogspot.com/search/label/Sri%20Lanka

Danny's stuck his neck out to expose Jimbo over this and the cause seems to be worthy. See the below for more information.

With all the talk about this I've put the Ebay links below.

Someone calling themselves Wordbomb has placed a few bids.

How soon will some joker create a false ebay user name "JimmyWales" and place a few bids? (IMG:smilys0b23ax56/default/laugh.gif)

http://cgi.ebay.com/Wikipedia-Jimmy-Jimbo-...1QQcmdZViewItem

The tee-shirt has a white stain on it. Sorry, I'm not going to say what I think the stain is, but I can't help keep thinking of the troubles Bill had with Monica Lewinsky. (IMG:smilys0b23ax56/default/laugh.gif)

"Both of these items have been washed, twice, with Tide extra-strength liquid detergent. Otherwise, they would not be in salable condition. "

Isn't Jimbo more than rich enough to

That's erm, pretty resistant ''stuff' though, if it's been through the wash twice and is still there. Wonder what he's eating (IMG:smilys0b23ax56/default/biggrin.gif)

Yes of course Jimbo can afford to join in, but it's more of an ego boost if lackeys do it for you, I imagine. As always, fanboys care more than the objects of their passion do.

Well, see, the majority of Jimbo's 'fans' have much tighter
finances than Jimbo himself. They have things to do like
pay the rent or the mortgage, the utility bills, the groceries,
both routine and unexpected medical bills, gasoline or
transit fare, clothing, other regular every day stuff. Then
maybe they want to save up for things like a house or a
better vehicle, not to mention always have some money
that can be used for emergencies. If they manage to pay
for all the necessities without going too badly into debt,
it's always fun to spend a bit of money on leisure.

In other words, most people have much better things to do
with their money than save the dignity of a rich person who
could easily afford to do it himself.

I wonder if he'll ask the Foundation to get it back for him :-D

I bet he'll suggest it as a "joke" and watch their reaction, like a married man asking his wife if she wants to have a threesome.

Wow. The shirt and sweater are at $301 and $405, respectively.

I think it's time to re-open the Wikipedia Review Cafepress store. Perhaps a T-shirt with a simulated stain that reads, "I was dumped on Wikipedia and all I got was this lousy T-shirt."

Hey, if that IS cum on that t-shirt, that's evidence in a paternity suit, regardless of how many times it's been washed!

I say that it's worth every penny!

The rumor about the origins of the stain have obviously driven up the bidding price for the t-shirt (now going at $750 compared to a mere $530 for the sweater). Earlier the sweater was outpacing the t-shirt by about 2:1 (I speak as if they are animate objects, perhaps they are (IMG:smilys0b23ax56/default/smile.gif))

Let's be honest - it's a stain on a t-shirt. It's probably from a cheese steak sandwich or paint or something and highly unlikely to be "genetic material". And it also appears to be on the back of the shoulder which would necessitate an especially wild and unlikely sexual position.

It seems like a really lame shirt, really. It has some sort of logo on it, which Marsden doesn't display well (or is that another stain?)

Ebay

Shirt's now going for more than $2000! Unfortunately eBay decided to start obscuring bidders' names today so no idea who this person is except that with a track record of 0 (and it being wikipedia related) this could be a fake account. Either that or some Blofeldian figure actually wants to get the shirt and try to clone Jimbo. Hope he doesn't end up cloning Rachel instead.

It's now $12,100 and going higher. (IMG:smilys0b23ax56/default/blink.gif) Ebay will soon pull the plug on this one.

I'm thinking of creating a article titled "list of notable relationship breakups" if it already hasn't been done, and referencing this.

They have an incentive for it to work to collect commission. Perhaps they'll retroactively require history to bid.

It looks like two accounts without any history on ebay have driven up the price. The last "credible" bid was at the mere $2000 mark.

I'm confused- if people make a bid on ebay they have to buy the item usually if they win, and go through with it, don't they? So you can't really have a fake bid? Or does that all depend on the feedback system, so there's no other sanction if you do something like that?

My credit rating is so poor I can't buy stuff online myself, so don't know much about it (IMG:smilys0b23ax56/default/smile.gif)

As to the cloning- are you sure you'd prefer there was a jimbo to a rachel clone? She's better looking, IMHO. And I don't think she would say she 'makes the internet not suck'- she has a face like she might have a webcam and no how to use it (IMG:smilys0b23ax56/default/smile.gif)

Hey....what if there's a tape? (IMG:smilys0b23ax56/default/wink.gif) lol

I sell a fair bit of LEGO on eBay. My experience with deadbeat buyers has been that the recourse is to file a Final Value Fee claim, which means that after a while, you get your final value fee refunded by eBay and the item can be relisted. The buyer, if they can't explain why they didn't complete the transaction, gets a "strike" against them. 3 strikes and you're out. Theoretically. The other recourse is to leave the buyer negative feedback.

That's how the system is supposed to work. In reality, there are lots of ways for the buyer to avoid the strike, lots of reasons to give. I've never had a deadbeat buyer get one. (although I always get my fee back... usually it is because I let them off the hook). I avoid leaving negative feedback, because it's too easy to be retaliated against. One problem with having a perfect feedback record (as I do, and although I won't pimp my store here, my ID is pretty darn obvious, you can go see for yourself what my feedback looks like) is that you really want to keep it that way. So I bend over backwards to avoid negative feedback.

In this case... these deadbeat/joke/throwaway accounts will have absolutely nothing happen to them for making these joke bids. IMHO anyway. Throwaway accounts are terrifically easy to create. The seller has little or no legal recourse and eBay typically is no help at all, it's slanted toward buyers. Again, my view only. (but yes, you found a hot button of mine. eBay is the biggest game in town so if you want to sell, you sell there, like how they do things or not, and I want to sell, so I go along, like it or not)

That was probably more info than you wanted. (IMG:smilys0b23ax56/default/smile.gif)

For when this auction expires:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Wikipedia-Jimmy-Wales-...1QQcmdZViewItem
QUOTE
Jimbo Wales.co.uk domain for sale

Forget stained old clothing put online by vengeful and psychotic one night stands! What were you thinking Jimbo???

Invest in a digital property medium that Bill Gates recently said was currently appreciating faster than any other commodity known to man. A premium domain name.

And .co.uk domains are now appreciating faster than any other tld, including .com! Forget the bogus $7m sale of business.com from one shell company to another. .co.uk is where all the action is at!

The market demand, and prices, for prime .co.uk domains is currently going through the roof. The .co.uk record that stood for a couple of years at £120,000 for taste.co.uk purchased by our client Sainsbury’s has now been smashed three times in the past three months, firstly by recycle.co.uk at £160,000 and also by cruises.co.uk last month at $1.1 million dollars!

This auction is brought to you by UK3.com Limited. UK3.com own and operate the DropCatcher service at www.detagged.co.uk that is the World’s largest .co.uk dropcatching service and also own one of the largest portfolios of prime generic .co.uk domain names in the World including groceries.co.uk, printers.co.uk, trainers.co.uk, biochemicals.co.uk, half.co.uk, bandwidth.co.uk and thousands more.

Own a piece of internet history, Jimbo is sure to achieve his ambition of floating wikioogle so that he can kit out his new private jet as his own personal flying f***chamber. Maybe Jimbo and Rachel might even kiss and make up.

Whatever happens, this valuable domain can only appreciate in value! Bid now!

Technically, co.uk is a second level domain, not a top level domain. It's a sibling of others such as org.uk and gov.uk, with .uk as its parent.

I hope it sells for 20 bucks. He doesn't deserve it to sell for tens of thousands.

And that the low price is duly recorded in history.

What does SV have to do with this?

*sigh*

That would be Mack's Rule: "As a Wikipedia discussion grows longer, the probability of mentioning SlimVirgin approaches 1."

The second link is dead. The first os from Alberta, where SV is alleged to be.

I thought SV was based in Saskwatch or some such named place. I don't know, my Canadian geography isn't the best. Nathan?

Leave those Sasquatches out of this! What did they ever do to you? (IMG:smilys0b23ax56/default/tongue.gif)

You must mean Swalwell, Alberta.

Ebay has disqualified the auctions probably because the clothes weren't Marsden's to sell.

So did Jimbo complain to eBay and get them to ax the sales?

BTW, check out the comments made by readers of her hometown newspaper, the Vancouver Province

Shame on you The Province for giving this chick so much Publicity. She is not in her right mind and should be banned from any media coverage. Thank you for wasting time on this issue instead of covering things that may be considered important in the world.

Forget the shirt, is this the best Rachel can do to get her name in the news. Finally she has run her course and we will soon never have to hear her name again. Unless she dates OJ that is.

Rachel Marsden is hilarious! I think she's great! This women has some serious abandonment issues. I wish I could feel sorry for her but she is so damn entertaining! I sincerely hope that she gets a reality show where she can spew her right wing hate speech while being in a love triangle with Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh. They say sex sells. I say CRAZY makes you watch it over and over again.

Rachel Marsden is the biggest has been that has ever graced the pages of anything. And I find it sad that the media seem to feel the public is the least bit interested in any part of her pathetic little life.

Is this really news????? The best part of this story is the fact that this 'whack job' is living in New York. Now she's their problem. If I never hear her name again it will be to soon. Please report on 'real news'.

Obviously, the story is doing it's job, look at the comments floating in, look at how many have saved this to bookmarks just so they can keep up on the story. Good thinking Province. The story must have some decent ratings, judging by the amount of comments being generated, heee.

Yes, she is getting her much needed publicity but hopefully she will eventually seek help with her underlying problems. Query a history of childhood abuse in her past ?

"Unless she dates OJ that is". LOL, Islander, I love that one and it is perfect for this girl. I'll bet she has already thought of that one though. It would be perfect for OJ, fatal attraction. She comes by this naturally I think as others in her immediate family were weird as well.

I felt abandon that today 07 Mar 2008 that this was my first knowledge of who ever this is selling whe ever that is clothes on ebay. Is there a new blackout in the midwest that prevented me from knowing the juicy details as if I really needed to know this. I hope that news blackout filter continues to work the way it has.

While I agree that giving this nutcase any attention is wrong I am also sick of her getting a free pass from the local media regarding her lunacy since she left town. Her resume is filled with lies and in recent years she's done more harrassment and has been dragged out of the Fox studios kicking and screaming once they caught on to how crazy she is.

Marsden's massive ego, will never allow to seek the professional mental help that she so badly requires. Her only redeeming quality is her good looks, Ms. Marsden has a 2 cent head. If she was a plain jane, it's, very likely that they would lock her up in the nuthouse and throw away the key.

it's good to know that the news is covering important issues out there, NOT!! What a load of crap! How many others out there have had crappy breakups? With all this publicity why don't we raise money for good causes or savings lives in 3rd workd countries, who give a hoot about this girl getting dumped and trying to get even with selling the clothes of her ex?.. Give the publicity to something that is actually important and quit wasting time on petty stuff!

Frankly I don't even find this woman attractive. She is without doubt in need of some serious mental health consideration. She will be boiling someones' rabbit or emerging out of a bathtub with a knife if not!!! This is sad....and it does solidify the general feeling that if you want reasonable news, read the Sun, if you want a sort of British tabloid feel, read the Province....all the same company though so they have the whole market covered. And let's face it, there are those of us who do not find the escapades of a proven wacko to be "news", we take the time to sound off on it.

I think maybe she just moved the items to the United States' Ebay, and now the auction title says "Jimmy W***s", so there's no legal claim that the shirt belongs to one Mr. W-a-l-e-s. Could be Jimmy Wqzys, for all we know.

Another nine days on the clock, and she's started the bidding about where it had left off in Canada. $2400 for the T-shirt, and $1200 for the sweater.

See, it's the cult-of-virginity thing, like Elizabeth I and The Holy Mother of God.

I dunno why it fascinates anymore than malnutrition, but it seems to. At least Jimbo seems to be getting some nookie. From the way they behave, I can't see any evidence that the rest of the people who run WP are. If they were, they'd be nicer.

Certainly that 24-yo little punk who called himself Essjay and pretended to be a professor of canon law, can't have been getting any. And probably wasn't too sure of what kind he wanted. (IMG:smilys0b23ax56/default/dry.gif)
