QUOTE(One @ Sun 21st December 2008, 12:06am) I apologize in advance if this make WR too respectable for your tastes. (Or, borrowing the analogy of Milton Roe, WR gentrification.)
More suspicious than respectable. Why were you "Mike" on your user page up until 2005-12-13 and then beginning 2006-09-22 you suddenly became "Frank" and have been "Frank" ever since? Do you expect me to believe the qualifications you claim? Why don't you just put your real name on your user page?

Yes I do. I claim I'm a student at a particular institution. Google it; there is clearly such a student there; here's my mug, matches my Facebook photo. Here I am discussing my Mormon film series. Take a look at who wrote the Wikipedia article on [[ LDS cinema]]. As that student, and in a freaking class blog, I also claim to be Cool Hand Luke. Thank you! You are really for real! That stuff you link to is hard to find if the searcher doesn't know your last name. Somey is doing research on user names that rank poorly — maybe you can give him some pointers.

QUOTE(Lar @ Sun 21st December 2008, 10:34pm) QUOTE(Milton Roe @ Sun 21st December 2008, 1:40pm) Now that One is off the hustings, we shall see if his WP-critical voice recovers from its temporary laryngitis. Otherwise we'll have to change his Avatar. That is by far the worst LEGO creation I have seen in a long time. Not that I even get what point it's trying to make... (except from the filename, LarOneTeleporterAccident.jpg) is that your own work or did you beat up/bribe/browbeat some hapless toddler to build that for you? No humor at all there, Lar? Not even a grin? I believe it is a LEGO version of Scrat, the saber-toothed squirrel. If that helps.

Until you said that, I didn't get that it was supposed to be a head - I was trying to interpret what turns out to be the upper jaw as an arm, with the nose as a fist.

EDIT: And now I see you're there ... that didn't take long I get the impression that Brandt might be simply adding admins etc as they become available. This would be a good thing if Hivemind ceased being a device to squeeze individual concession in exchange for removal and simply became a catalog of who has authority on Wikipedia. This would take away any of the coercive flavor it sometimes has. He is approaching maybe 100 which is a pretty good start (I didn't actually count). I don't much like the Selina inclusion as it fails to recognize a "dissent" v "authority" distinction that I think is important but Brandt might not agree. It is nevertheless good if he makes inclusion more dispassionate. Also I think he should link to WMF's "confirmed identity" page as this is also an important resource to accountability as the information would be readily available by subpoena or other discovery tools to anyone with a serious need for it.

No humor at all there, Lar? Not even a grin? Well, I guess I should have tossed a smiley in there somewhere but I figured that by saying "browbeat some hapless toddler" you'd know I was smiling.... because let's review (In case you never had kids, gentle reader, and sorry for the repeat for those of you that did) 1) Toddlers are NOT browbeatable. By definition. The very idea is ridiculous. Hence a clue I was kidding back. 2) Toddlers are NOT hapless. They are the epitome of devious perfidity (in a nice way, they didn't MEAN for the cake to end up on the floor, it just sort of happened... etc.). Also a clue. QUOTE(Milton Roe @ Mon 22nd December 2008, 2:31am) I believe it is a LEGO version of Scrat, the saber-toothed squirrel. If that helps. Not much. But thanks just the same. I suppose I should be flattered. I've always thought I was rather toothless. Saber toothed eh? Raaaawr! Heh. Actually the LEGO community has a long and rich tradition of mockery and inside jokes and bad puns. Some of it even is good natured. We just tend not to appreciate the mundanes doing it. (and, no offense, but whoever built that thing is a mundane. At best.) QUOTE(CharlotteWebb @ Mon 22nd December 2008, 8:34am) QUOTE(Lar @ Mon 22nd December 2008, 5:34am) That is by far the worst LEGO creation I have seen in a long time. Best I saw was a lego replica of Schloss Neuschwanstein, probably notable in its own right (disclaimer: I have a certain notoriety for inclusionism) but I could find nothing on flickr of an acceptable license. Not to toot my own horn but if you go for sculpture (which I don't) the work I PMed that our club did in which we did a Tony the Tiger statue is not bad. Me, I like big minifig scale layouts and slice of life sort of dioramas. Try searching Brickshelf. QUOTE(CharlotteWebb @ Mon 22nd December 2008, 8:34am) What you could do, Lar, is create a mediawiki extension for collaborative assembly of virtual legos. "Stable versions" would take on a whole new meaning (think Jenga).
Virtual LEGO is already fairly well established, google for LDraw sometime... collaborative hmm... I think there's a game that is a cross between a digital designer and an RPG in which you buy virtual blocks and build stuff to use in the game... not sure if BrickWiki has a write up. But I digress.
