QUOTE(Herschelkrustofsky @ Fri 23rd November 2007, 3:32am) QUOTE(thekohser @ Thu 22nd November 2007, 10:06pm) Somebody was piecing together the SlimVirgin story, but then, in the nick of time … Jimbo to the rescue! This is most interesting. I know that we have some members here who have gone over SV's Lockerbie and Salinger edits with a fine-tooth comb, including the oversighted ones. Can someone who has that degree of familiarity with the issues examine Jim Larry's contributions, so that we can get a better sense of what he was up to that called down Jimbo's wrath upon him? Here we see the the immune system of the organism Wikipseudpseud pseudio in action. In order to understand what is happening in this case it is pertinent to recall the functions and the properties of immune systems in general. We give the name «Immune System» (IS) — from the Latin for duty-free and standing together — to the whole collection of agencies in a Collective Agent (CA) that facilitate the preservation of its Collective Identity (CI) by recognizing the distinction beteeen agencies of that collective and agencies not of that collective. Defined in these terms, the IS of a CA X implements a specific information-theoretic or logical function, namely, the function of recognizing what agents are part the collective X and what agents are not part of the collective X. Agents of X are allowed to participate in the activities of X, while agents not of X must not be allowed to participate in the activities of X. Back after coffee … Jon Awbrey

Jimbo to the rescue! It was me. Before I had my local installation of MediaWiki perfected, I was using Jimbo's to look at SV's Oversighted edits in the traditional "diff" format. I then used the raw html from those pages to re-create some of those diffs on my site. I threw the account away on August 25 when I used it to participate in SV's AN/I. They'll likely be gone soon, but for now you can go here to see most of SlimVirgin's Oversighted edits made as Slimv and the IP 70.64.24.120. Look to the subject line to see the original editor and timestamp. What I want to know is how the person asking Jimbo came to learn about ole Jim Larry, who mostly kept to himself, you know. PS: in order to keep the account from being discovered too easily I used a simple code for the subjects of the Oversighted diffs. 301AP = PA103 RM = Robert Maxwell PS and PSal = Pierre Salinger jfk = Reactions to the death of JFK This post has been edited by WordBomb: Fri 23rd November 2007, 10:17am

I should think that, BY NOW, the idea of having an infinite number of fake profiles would certainly add to the thesis that maybe, just maybe, WP should change policy and require users to provide some sort of identification ? I gess nit. This is one of the primary reasons, aside from the fact that all articles can eventually default to lame; mediocre; average, why I fail to understand how Facebook, MySpace or Wikipedia will ever be taken seriously by scholars or educators.

I didn't say anything to anyone, because I figured as soon as I did (tarpit or not) they'd disappear. I think I have a copy somewhere. In any case, they matched up with what I have in my old dumps. Maybe the same way I came across them. This post has been edited by anthony: Fri 23rd November 2007, 8:42pm
