_ The Wikipedia Annex _ Steve Cross/Steve Zhang RfA

It has been ages since I've paid any attention to the RfA drama machine Taking a look this afternoon, I see that the artist formerly known as Steve Crossin (who famously played "borrow my mop" with Peter Symonds and Chet Long a few years ago) is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Rfa#Steven_Zhang.
Steve is a nice guy and he got the short end of the stick as part of that idiotic escapade with those teenage idiots. I would like to imagine that he'd spend his time in pursue of more meaningful adventures - but if he gets adminship, it would be a welcome sign of a nice guy who (for once) wins the Wiki-game.

He's doing the mediation of the Holodomor case I'm currently involved in. Aside from the fact that it's taking a long time (which these things always do), I am actually quite impressed with him there.

He was himself a "teenage idiot", and may still be for all I know. Why believe one set of lies but not another?

Idiot, still a bit; teenage, not for a few years, if I recall correctly.

He withdrew. Sad, it started off well then it pretty much tanked. I wonder how many opposes were informed off wiki though?

That's a shame. Steve is one of the very, very few Wikipeople that I respect. He deserves better - and outside of Wikipedia, I am sure that he will find it.
If anyone here is in touch with Steve, pass along a big Horsey kiss to him.

Well half the opposes were of the "OMG WE CAN'T TRUST HIM PERIOD" sort of sense. The other half was really "dude, you only came back 6 months ago, want to see a bit more time before I can support you given your past". He is one of the better people on there and really a very cool head in terms of his actions on wiki. What I really don't get though is why is it harder for him to get adminship than it was for Chet and Peter to get theirs back? I remember the fall out from it but I don't recall exact details.

It is not hard for bad boys admins to regain their bits after a spell of mischief. Fat boy GlassCobra knowingly nominated a sockpuppet for adminship, got his adminship taken away, and then crassly demanded the tools back - and he got them.
Chet had some friends pulling for him privately - there was no "community" debate. Peter went through another RfA without problems - quite different from Steve's hassle.

Not to mention Peter eventually got steward. And what was this GlassCobra incident? o_o

Oh, you weren't here for that? GlassCobra knowingly nominated someone for adminship who was a sockpuppet. But that was only half of it - it turned out a couple of Arbcom members knew it was a sockpuppet account but allowed it to function. That was two years ago - all water under the proverbial bridge.

B-I-N-G-O!
By the way, doesn't Steve have a sexy wife? I think he changed his surname to hers after he hooked up with her. Any intriguing photos of the wonderful young Mrs. Steve?

Nope, none that are online. Kinda plan on keeping it that way too.

There did appear to be some canvassing from the opposers. I hope Steve doesn't feel too bad about this. RfA is stressful enough without the crap that he got put through.

Is thread about some RFA? Really? Sorry but I have no clue what goes on over there anymore. If I'd have known that I'd have Annexed it long ago. Idiots.

Not just
some RfA -- this is all about Steve, one of the true heroes of Wikipedia! He's an editor, peacemaker, humanitarian, natural-born leader and husband to a hot chili mama!
If we had more people like Steve on Wikipedia...well, we'd be out of business because there would be nothing for WR to talk about!

I had a sense that there may have been a bit of canvassing going on. The editor that came back after 11 months to oppose me, and the retired editor set it off. But these things are hard to prove. Ah well, not much I can do. Shit happens

You left out another major issue starting with oppose 9. Apparently he has too many "friends" and yammers on IRC too much so add ZOMG IRC ADMIN to the mix.
