What were they thinking when they allowed 500-character article titles?

Hopefully nobody here will be careless enough to click on a nimp.org link!

We're talkin' goatse, malware, pornographic Quicktime movies that can't be stopped without doing an end-task on the browser, the whole nine yards.

Cuz we've all been there, done that. The scariest part is not knowing for a few seconds if rebooting your computer is actually going to fix it. So then you think you're going to have to go to nerd tech support to get the thing removed, and THEY see it...

Very embarassing case of computer clap.

Yes it happened to me, it's no shame to know it. I thought it had killed my PC, ED didn't care either, they just said, 'ha, that's an old one'.(IMG:smilys0b23ax56/default/smile.gif)

(IMG:smilys0b23ax56/default/biggrin.gif) Though I'm not tech support, I'm the geek up at Level 4 or so that see's the stuff that percolates on up. We usually embarrass the [l]user to death first then explain it's all Bill Gates' fault.

I remember one time about 2000 or so youngest daughter wanted to show ma & me an email. At the time she had a hotmail account but typed in hotmale instead. Yowza (IMG:smilys0b23ax56/default/ohmy.gif) She hit the poweroff button. I still kid her about that (IMG:smilys0b23ax56/default/cool.gif)

Very well - it opened a bunch of tabs but that's it. Chrome closed no problem, didn't have to reboot or anything.

I thought about this certain company and WP, not long ago. They're now running this commercial where IBM-guy is dressed in kingly robes with sceptre, and he's explaining to cool-MacStudent guy that it doesn't matter if Macs are better, that he's the king of the domain because it's just too hard for subjects to leave. Following which, Mac-guy politely explains that it's easy to leave-- just take your PC into the iStore and the nice nerds there will port all your files over to the Mac you just bought. Following which, IBM-god-king says:

"I banish you. You're bannished" (IMG:smilys0b23ax56/default/mellow.gif)

And I thought: "JIMBO!" (IMG:smilys0b23ax56/default/laugh.gif) They got it just right.

MR

PS: I see AAPL is down again, but then so is every tech stock. Turns out when major banks are collapsing and people need to buy groceries and pay mortgage, they really will quit buying new computers and iGizmos. Who'd a thunk it?

I got hit a couple months or so ago by SQLDb. He posted the link in chan and I'd not seen it before. So I clicked to see what Grawp was up to... bad times. Haha. There's was some music playing, couldn't quite make out what the words were, but one was clear (start with n and ends in r). And it opened like 50 windows. I did an end task and all was good. Luckily no virus.

Speaking of which, the discussion at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Red...ussion#Nimp.org is kinda sad. Deleting that redirect will cause curious readers to either click the link (bad!) or ask urban dictionary.

Speaking of Grawp, he and his buds really hammered Werdna's wiki tonight.

They've pretty-much trashed the place (IMG:smilys0b23ax56/default/ohmy.gif) It's like leaving your back door open when you're away and having a troupe of howler monkeys come visit.

Basically, he's de-sysopped everyone, gained global steward rights, checkusered everyone (got my IP address, dammit. Ah well, here's another) and has free rein of the place. Werdna's going to have to shell in, lock the db and do a restore.

It looks like Werdna had a separate wiki attached to it and had left default accounts wide-open allowing steward access to anyone. Grawp logs in and pwns it. Simultaneously impressive and a frickin' nuisance. I'd just cleaned up the earlier mess - ah, well (IMG:smilys0b23ax56/default/dry.gif)

Hey Castle Rock, how was it for you? (IMG:smilys0b23ax56/default/huh.gif) (IMG:smilys0b23ax56/default/tongue.gif) (IMG:smilys0b23ax56/default/laugh.gif)

Do I take it that Grawp is now targeting more vulnerable wikis now that the Wikipedia devs and admins are keeping him at bay? (IMG:smilys0b23ax56/default/wacko.gif)

Pretty-much, yeah. He has to get his jollies elsewhere (such as visiting Emperor's ickle wiki (IMG:smilys0b23ax56/default/biggrin.gif) )

Werdna's wiki was only a test installation and werdna hadn't even done the basics, such as prot the mainpage, etc. Scrunch it up and start again - no big deal.

While mild lulz, what's "epic" about taking over a completely unprotected wiki?

It's like all the gripes people put on wikipedia about "omg someone haked ur sight, they edited an article!"
