_ The ArbCom-L Leaks _ Malice's identity

Posted by: Ottava

Given Malleus's questioning the leak on Iridescent's talk page and the Arbitrators not saying anything (to the point that Risker's response was being heavily criticized by just about everyone to the point that it was obvious that she was either covering up matters or just being disruptive), what can be revealed here about Malice's identity?

Somey, can you tell us at least which country the individual comes from? Using a Proxy or something else? Is it an Arb or some regular on WR or just some new person? Anything?

There was a thread about this before. Some people suspected Sam Korn. Malice was using a proxy, according to one of the mods.

It's irrelevant now.

Actually, it is more relevant now. With Malice being in the past, there is no reason to bother respecting the privacy of the user.

Hilarious.

Jeffrey Peters, who cries like a little girl when he is mentioned by name, calling for another user who did not self identify on the wikipedia mailing lists to be "outed"...

You can't make this shit up.

It is actually quite amusing to see how Iridescent http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk%3AIridescent&action=historysubmit&diff=454044641&oldid=454039219

I taught my children that I was the bogeyman, and that some day all this would be theirs.

I suspected that Wikileaker was Sam Korn. I have no clue who Malice is. I suspect he is not known by any other name in Wikipedia or Wikipedia Review. You can try to guess his country by looking at timestamps on his posts, but it's pointless.

Then that brings up the question as to why he hacked, or how he knew where to hack. I am of the camp that believes this was an inside job, and not by Iridescent. I believe that it was more likely to be a long term Arbitrator who was part of the old group and believed more in trying to demonstrate a lack of a need to reform and/or take out some enemies. After all, I saw nothing that was truly damaging.

I have email discussions with the ArbCom-l that show some Arbitrators willing to speak quite nastily and with the whole list witnessing, so there was probably a lot of stuff that would have embarrassed them if made public. Yet it wasn't. I don't think that is a coincidence.

And there is the question of why did he bother hacking in the first place. To entertain a dozen or so people on Wikipedia Review? No self-respecting hacker would aim so low.

Malice's identity, I believe, was always fairly obvious - and the more he communicated with us, the more obvious it became.

Oh yes? Do share who you suspect it to be....

Yes, I've shared my thoughts with people who contact me privately for an in-depth analysis. I am not posting it here because that person is a regular WR contributor with a history of a mean streak.

That doesn't narrow it down very much... wink.gif

I would add that the person is a sitting Arbitrator.

But still... doesn't narrow it down. Out of all the visiting Arbs, I think Casliber has been the only one to really be nice (except for one Arb who used an alternate name and wasn't publicly identified, so I wont reveal that as I haven't seen it used since he took office). A few don't speak at all really (but have accounts). But the majority... yah.
