Remember when http://www.spiegel.de/netzwelt/web/0,1518,573198,00.html that coveted Quadriga Award?

Sounds like they have had a http://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/foundation-l/2011-July/066909.html on the deal.

The Quadriga Award can't be too important......its http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quadriga_%28award%29 is a bit pathetic. tongue.gif

It is especially noteworthy that Jimmy Wales is listed as a Quadriga Board member

Putin deserves the award more than Wikipedia or Wales. When was the last time you saw the ol Jimbo hunting animals shirtless, showing off his courage?

Neither of them deserve the award - after all, it's supposed to be "dedicated to all of those whose courage tears down walls and whose commitment builds bridges." So they need to find someone who does both demolition (presumably getting up really close to do it) and has managed to get a bridge over some waterway constructed while being locked up in a lunatic asylum. There can't be many people like that around, surely.

Now, if they were to simply dedicate the award to "whoever happens to be getting a lot of press at the moment," then I could see it.

Of course, if they're not going to come up with the dosh, why is anyone paying attention in the first place? I mean, if stiffed awards are press-worthy, why doesn't everybody award one to themselves?

So, I hereby award myself $1.2 million for my having the courage and commitment to click the "Add Reply" button for this post. Stop the presses!

And hey, I'm rich! smile.gif

.....one of these things is not like the others......

Seriously, though. It's not a good award.

In 2004 they gave it to ErdoÄŸan, who is a good Turkish president but http://turkeyexposed.wordpress.com/ from flawless. And they also gave one to Karzai, whose government is, I guarantee, http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/ed20100908a1.html corrupt....

They can now change the name to the Quagga Award - which is appropriate for the beating of a dead horse. ermm.gif
