Apparently, Delicious carbuncle thinks that Shankbone is the operator of several multiple accounts. Namely,

Thoughts? Opinions? Was this common knowledge of which I've just been unaware?

He http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard#Multiple_alternate_accounts about it at AN first, then posted the SPI request. He has http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk%3ADavid_Shankbone&action=historysubmit&diff=328767658&oldid=328028232 Mr. Shankbone on his userpage.

To Mr. Shankbone's credit, pretty much all of those pseudos (except for the Bucktoothed Beaver one, which was news to me...) were discussed already on WR. Since we're pretty much "drama central" as far as Wikipedia is concerned, anybody who wasn't aware of these socks simply wasn't paying attention...

That said, it's probably best to get this out in the open, once and for all...

Oh, man, Delicious Carbuncle http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons/Noticeboard&diff=prev&oldid=328522588 He's http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/List_of_male_performers_in_gay_porn_films_(5th_nomination)

Even though this doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of being deleted, he's absolutely right about the BLP issues. This list is a disaster waiting to happen....

In the world of abusive socks, these are pretty small beer. In fact, aside from the self-publicist COI thing, which has not been resolved in terms of his own user id, so the socks are pretty irrelevant, the only point in bringing this up is drama.

Hmm, there is some speculation as to whether http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&as_q=&as_epq=benji+featherstone&as_oq=&as_eq=&num=100&lr=&as_filetype=&ft=i&as_sitesearch=avn.com&as_qdr=all&as_rights=&as_occt=any&cr=&as_nlo=&as_nhi=&safe=images and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_male_performers_in_gay_porn_films#cite_note-2008_GayVN-61 might somehow be connected with a Wikipedia editor. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Rockstars721

So, perhaps DC has a point here?

Shankbone seemed to be fixated on my "Cheeto colored beaver teeth" around the time he was publicizing the ED article about me and the origins of my daughter.

So, there is that connection to a beaver, perhaps.

QUOTE
Yes, Ash has pretty much called it. This is very much sky is falling BLP! BLP! Why wouldn't we re-hash that BLP thread, or the ANI one before that? This all started because you seem to want to remove/diminish an image of Michael Lucas (by David Shankbone) from the lede. You started the ANI thread when you let it slip you simply couldn't be bothered to address the BLP concerns because you were too busy edit-warring on the image. Then at BLP you were basically proven wrong and likely lazy - the big BLP concern? - that wikilinks went to the wrong person - sofixit. But no problem, every issue will be sorted out, those links to pornsites confirm that we aren't violating BLP - presumable your current concern and every other reasonable issue will be dealt with by more level headed editors who really have no vested interest in whether we have this content here or not. And the reason that the only comparable list of women in porn to you seems to be List of pornographic actresses by decade likely has only one explanation - this is the only list for men in gay porn films. And more categories simply don't equal replacing a list - see Wikipedia:Categories, lists, and navigation templates. -- Banjeboi 17:24, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

* Benjiboi, please strike your remarks. Calling me "lazy" and once again implying that I am a homophobe are clear personal attacks. As is your repeated claim that I edit-warred over an image (which the article history will show that you were the one reverting multiple editors to restore). I'm here to comment on the issues raised in this AfD, not to bicker with you. Incidentally, you may wish to check the credit on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Michael_Lucas_Men_of_Israel_film_shoot.jpg - unless you know that Commons user "I Smell Beaver" is yet another of David Shankbone's alternate accounts, the image has nothing to do with him. I'm accepting bets on how long it will take a gay admin (or friend thereof) to ban DC.

And I state the following, which you may use as reference.

Time until DC is accused of "hate speech", or Godwin's law is invoked: 1 day

Time until AFD is closed out: 3 days

Time until DC is banned: 1 month or less

(And just for dramatic effect, let me state that Benjiboi is a toxic little shit, gay or straight.)

If anyone is banned, it should be David Shankbone, followed by his faithful little puppy dog Benjiboi. Shankbone appears to have violated so many policies/rules in his time, and has basically stopped editing. Benjeboi is an irritating SPA in sex-related topics, particularly to do with homosexuality.

Oh, and there's no question regarding his sexuality. Just look at his userpage.

No, but based on some of the above comments it could very easily be seen that way.
Especially since the real issue here is Sockpuppeting, not sexual orientation.

I have a vain hope that most people will eventually see Benjboi's logic-free rants for what they are, which is misdirection from the COI/paid editing issues. There is no shortage of gay male admins, so it is possible that one of them will be fooled, but it is much more likely that it will be a straight male admin who wields the banhammer (being far less able to discern deliberate targetting from coincidental targetting of gay editors).

I just don't understand this. Anyone who's been around as longs as Shankbone must know about checkuser. He's certainly dialed in. Avoiding checkuser detection for socks is a fairly simple endeavor. So is he a complete moron to get busted like this? Or does he just not care, or was he trying to get busted, or did he really think he had enough pull to avoid the consequences?

My theory is that he thought he had enough pull to avoid the scrutiny and thereby avoid the consequences. Plus he was pissed off because his article was deleted and was deliberately being "on vacation" so that WP could miss him a little. That meant using socks instead of his main account. There's probably also a case to be made that he really doesn't think he did anything wrong.

Some of these are very funny. Littlefoote (T-C-L-K-R-D) 's http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Littlefoote as a new user was: 1) create user page, 2) create talkpage, 3) revert a comment of Durova's on the Shankbone bio debate. Hmmm. Could be a sock, maybe? ermm.gif

IMournRuthPointer (T-C-L-K-R-D) 's only edit was to add a porn photo illustrating other things a fluffer in a gay porn photo does. Like hand off lubricants to men in the middle of something, who can't get up easily. Oh, http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Fluffer&diff=prev&oldid=325740364. The http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Fluffer_on_set.jpg is Lucas Entertainment. Where have we heard this name? huh.gif ohmy.gif Uploaded by one Allstarecho (T-C-L-K-R-D) with the entertaining justification: "Source=Has been on my computer for a while, forget original source". So who is user:Allstarecho, eh? Inquiring minds want to know since the photo he uploaded ended up being a inserted into an article by a Shankbone sock, as its only act. Interesting. User Allstarecho seems to be interested only in gay-promo, but is not a photographer. Perhaps then, the fluffer??

[Edit: Oh, dear, user:Allstarecho has been fighting with Durova and others, and seems to be very recently retired. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Allstarecho&diff=prev&oldid=310675493]

A rebours me (T-C-L-K-R-D) Seems to have no edits at all. Oversighted? Where did the userpage come from?

Fat Jenny foto fixer  (T-C-L-K-R-D) 's third edit, after making user and name pages, was to replace one Shankbone foto http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Kate_Mulgrew&diff=prev&oldid=324595360 in the BLP of Kate Mulgrew. blink.gif "I prefer THIS photo" THAT OTHER ONE DOES NOT PLEASE ME... laugh.gif

Bucktoothed beaver (T-C-L-K-R-D) 's edits consisted of adding four Shankbone photos of authors from the same NY booksigning. One http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Jonathan_Safran_Foer&diff=prev&oldid=327775697 added to a BLP of Jonathan Safran Foer, who has written a book called Eating Animals. Where have we seen this title? hmmm.gif

Ponyboybreakaway (T-C-L-K-R-D) 's third edit was to say that putting Mzoli's as a high priority article was an insult to South Africa! Oh, Jimbo's not going to like downgrading this article, which is probaly why a sock wants to do it. See http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Mzoli%27s&diff=prev&oldid=325728386%5burl But the subtext, also, is that the Mzoli's Meats is a butcher's eatery.

Did I miss something, or did Shankbone worm his way into the WP power structure via that animal rights vegan thing, as well as by playing the gay and Jewish cards? It's not as though Jimbo's interested in much of this (he likes meat, but not THAT kind), but there are other WP people who care about carnivores very much, and are willing to trade porn for whatever.

Allstarecho left WP just in time to avoid the banhammer (he now http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/75.66.75.195 and sticks to articles about what I assume is his alma mater's sports teams). He had some serious COI issues on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equality_Mississippi, an organisation that he founded. Allstarecho was topic banned from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matt_Sanchez articles (and socks). He pushed the limits of this topic ban to the point that he was facing a full ban.

Coincidentally, Matt Sanchez appeared in gay porn as Pierre La Branche and Rod Majors. There are several portraits of him on Commons by none other than David Shankbone. I believe Benjiboi was also under some kind of topic ban related to Sanchez, but I may be wrong.

ROFL! Her concern is that it's a pile-on? But what kind of pile-on would it be? evilgrin.gif

My concern is that people who didn't like Shankbone found themselves up against the idea that they were homophobic, antisemitic, and antierotic. Who would have guessed that they just didn't like self promoters who get a free ride by kissing up to the correct prejudices?

But I think we see Shankers here playing the animal rights card, too. He dislikes butchers, likes people who sell vegan books, and so on. So Slims is for him and if he bothers you, tough.

Slim, you're lucky the "Fluffer" Shankbone uploaded, isn't lubing up somebody to screw a pooch.

Slimvirgin is strongly pushing the idea that Shankbone "retired" at the end of October. The reality is that he said "I leave on vacation early tomorrow," and then made edits after that as late as 19 Novembre. How does she get away with stuff like this? Hypnotism?

Posted by: EricBarbour

Excuse the hell out of me for mentioning this.....

So, Shankbone's been on WP since June 2006.
He's given the WMF a lot of celebrity and other photos. Which is good.

However....in the past 3 years, he has also, and let me summarize:

1. been an http://wikipediareview.com/index.php?showtopic=17176

2. posted http://wikipediareview.com/index.php?showtopic=17815 on Commons

3. http://wikipediareview.com/index.php?showtopic=19870 in the back--repeatedly

4. http://wikipediareview.com/index.php?showtopic=20456 Greg Kohs, http://wikipediareview.com/index.php?showtopic=23826, on his blog and elsewhere

5. been http://wikipediareview.com/index.php?showtopic=23767 by Somey

6. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:David_Shankbone/Hall_of_The_Greats to the worst of WP's "elite"

7. used his blog to http://wikipediareview.com/index.php?showtopic=23438 Fox News anchor Shepard Smith out of the closet

8. threatened to quit WP and take his photos with him, http://wikipediareview.com/index.php?showtopic=25416

9. used Meta servers as linkfarms for his blog, http://wikipediareview.com/index.php?showtopic=26774

10. accused Carbuncle of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/IncidentArchive570#User:Delicious_carbuncle_violation_of_NPA_and_Harass him, repeatedly

11. gotten a friend to http://wikipediareview.com/index.php?showtopic=26955 of himself on WP

12. and don't forget his Israel POV-pushing and doing the bidding of one Michael Lucas.

Might be forgetting something.

And after all that......he was finally nailed.
Not for any of those multitudinous sins, oh no.
That stuff wasn't important.

He was nailed for running sockpuppets, and lying about it.

Well yeah, that's a given, but I'm still a little concerned that despite the relative triviality of the pretext they finally came up with, this still means that their claims to the moral high ground can no longer be summarily dismissed, and that their complaints about "harassment" and "COI editing" might no longer be empty rhetoric. At least for the next six months...?

Shankbone has always been a strange one.

When he was taking (admittedly less-than-professional) photographs of low-level celebrities on red carpets, he was arguably doing a good job for Wikipedia.

Even the photographs of most body parts were useful (and they weren't his own, despite some comments!). Though I did feel the taint and the penis were not encyclopaedic - not in subject matter, but in composure.

What made me really notice him was the disgraceful Israel bias. Sticking the picture of a Palestinian kid with a toy gun into an article was just blatant.

He could have carried on doing a decent job if he had stuck at his hobby point-and-snap but his ego seemed to get the better of him, which is a pity.

Edit: Then again, I had a theory DS had a connection with Essjay for a while and that was what all the "protection" was about, but I was a little wide of the mark!

It's a joke, obviously. Playing up the angle that Shankbone was secretly known but has been "disavowed' now that he is in the hands of a foreign power.

I'm sure it's a quotation from Vietnam era. Was it Mister Kurtz in Apocalypse now?

I'm sure similar lines have been used, but not with that exact composition. At least not according to the googz.

There was a Shankbonish photo journalist in the film, played by Dennis Hopper. Willard gets to the place, Hopper, apologizing for severed heads adorning Kurtz's headquarters, says "The heads. You're looking at the heads. Sometimes he goes too far. He's the first one to admit it".

Seriously off-topic -- there is an utterly bizarre made-for-US TV version of "Heart of Darkness" from the 1950s starring Boris Karloff as Kurtz and Roddy McDowall as Marlow -- plus Eartha Kitt as a native girl. Watching that, you may hear a slight whirring sound -- it is Joseph Conrad spinning in his grave. blink.gif

A few thoughts

I'm surprised, frankly, by how clueless I was in not thinking that these accounts would be such a firestorm. I knew there were some people who felt I should slap some sort of tag on them, but the guidelines over this are unclear. I'm also surprised that people feel I was trying to "avoid scrutiny" considering that both the two photography accounts, User:Bucktoothed beaver and User:Fat Jenny foto fixer were putting up David Shankbone photos that David Shankbone had just uploaded on Commons. User:A Knavish Bonded--an account I started specifically to 'start over' during the 2008 stalking episode until people kept pointing out it was obviously me--only was being used to re-design my User page since I decided to ditch it to return to the DS account. As Delicious carbuncle wrote, the connections were "mind-numbingly obvious". Although I was aware that creating those accounts was not optimal, if I wanted to be totally deceptive for nefarious reasons I wouldn't have done it this way.

It's probably true that to a degree these actions reflect a boredom with the site, but also an annoyance. I do find the environment here a challenge to enjoy more than it used to be for me and I probably have cared less and less whether I contribute in the way everyone else prescribes, or at all. So, I don't mind the six month block, and I don't mind if it is shortened or lengthened. In truth, the block is an effective way to help me focus on my writing and not in taking/uploading photos (something I enjoy, but takes a lot of time).

So, once everyone gets over these dastardly accounts, and the rash one-off comment that I made as Littlefoote in the midst of a tense time, I hope you'll see that for three years I spent at times up to six nights a week going to events to produce thousands of photographs so that we had some images where we used to have none.

I won't be checking back here or following any discussions on-wiki or off-wiki, but I welcome e-mails from anyone who wants to reply. In about a week I'll remove this message. I've moved on, and don't hold ill will toward anyone here (nor even at the Wikipedia Review). It's funny how when you disengage, all these silly political arguments and drahmaz cease to matter at all after a few days. I'm very proud of everything I accomplished here, and in the friends I have made on the site, but I'm also looking forward to living a less conflict-oriented existence in my spare time. My Wiki friends--for whom I feel most bummed if they were upset by the cluelessness I referenced above--know they can always call on me if they ever need something. Take care, David Shankbone 16:29, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

I haven't seen it, but I can imagine Karloff doing a decent Kurtz. McDowall's natural part would be as the White Russian/Photographer-- you know, the guy who goes for whatever propaganda is propagated by the system he's in. (True story-- Brando refused to even be on the same set as Dennis Hopper).

Marlow-- who would make a decent Marlow in the 50's? Well, hell, obviously Humphrey Bogart! This would be a more African Queen like part. Real leeches do it everytime. Of course, he'd probably have said "already been there, been sucked like that...."

Yep. Chandler's Marlowe is much more interesting character, much more like his version in Apocalypse. Conrad's Marlow hardly has a personality-- he's just eyes for the reader.

Once you get past the notion of Boris Karloff running around shirtless and acting very strange, you can appreciate the offbeat nature of the casting. McDowall is miscast, of course -- too whiny and weak (though the screenplay, admittedly, doesn't do him any favors). Maybe a young Laurence Harvey as Marlow?

Allstarecho was topic banned from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matt_Sanchez articles (and socks). He pushed the limits of this topic ban to the point that he was facing a full ban.

Coincidentally, Matt Sanchez appeared in gay porn as Pierre La Branche and Rod Majors. There are several portraits of him on Commons by none other than David Shankbone. I believe Benjiboi was also under some kind of topic ban related to Sanchez, but I may be wrong.

Factual clarification: JzG had topic banned Benjiboi and Eleemosynary at an AE thread I initiated. Eleemosynary imploded shortly afterward with the curious conjunction of Swatjester, JzG, and me all asking him to return from the brink (how often do the three of us agree on anything?) Eleemosynary was an easy call; Benjiboi less so. He tried several appeals until, months back, I extended an unsolicited offer to appeal that topic ban for him. He accepted, ArbCom agreed. Of course that was before several other issues arose. One either looks magnanimous or foolish for supporting an appeal. You make the call.

But fwiw, there are certain disputes on WP where it's an advantage to be female and straight. Less mud to be slung.

It edited PETA, Chihauhau, David's images, and some porn articles, all David's areas. Was this a SOCK or an alternate account? SlimVirgin 05:05, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

So who wants to start posting instances of SV saying the precise opposite about people she didn't like who have been branded sockpuppets or better yet, people she branded as socks for doing the exact same thing that she's saying is not sockpuppetry now (eg "leaving" wikipedia but continuing editing with a series of throw away accounts; use of alternate accounts; digging up evidence from more than a year ago in order to justify banning someone etc)?

What made me really notice him was the disgraceful Israel bias. Sticking the picture of a Palestinian kid with a toy gun into an article was just blatant.

Edit: Then again, I had a theory DS had a connection with Essjay for a while and that was what all the "protection" was about ...

You mean, he knows more than he has said ... and so he was being protected, to stop him making a queen-sized drama?

Allow me to state an obvious theory ... and anyone would be dumb not to consider it ... Jimbo et all were hanging out for big Jewish American money and Shankbone's 'usefulness' to the Israeli Conslutate [sic] in New York was good in.

Of course, David Shankbone was a lot less useful than he could have been IF he had kept his head screwed on. We are surely left having to consider that David Saranga's, Israel's man, prejudices must have blinded by the Fire Island / Michael Lucas hard core gay porn connection.

I mean, if "Israel" was spending money, and had really wanted to achieve something on the Pornopee-dia, practically ANY contributor could have contributed better photographs. They could have easily gotten a pro level photographer. So what are we to make of all that?

I don't suspect Wales et al has any racial, religious or political bias ... but I could imagine a money interest. It is all fairly slimy really ...

Why did the 'ethical review' of all this have to take all the energy it has done to achieve, and
Why did the emphasis come from over here ... and
for what?

A token and meaningless tap on the wrist of his cyber ego!?!

Personally, I think you missed some of the other socks we referred to on the Benjiboi and other threads. It all speak of disrespect for the project and others.

Let's be very clear. What Shankbone promised was a $50 check TO ME (or my film director doppelganger), which then may be contributed to WR, or wherever, if he ever contributed again to any Wikimedia project.

He then edited again in the same thread, which he then characterized as not "making a contribution". I guess he means article space and/or those valuable images of his.

Whatever. Maybe I'll send him an e-mail asking for either the $50 (which will likely get split between ProCon.org, WR, and the Internet Review Corporation, if I am truly the executor of that gift) or a very clear definition of what he considers "making a contribution".

(I firmly expect he'll create or has already created another sock or two from a pristine IP address, and one day in the future we'll see edits to Michael Lucas or Israeli tourism related topics, and Lar and Alison will either remember or neglect to remember to Checkuser that "new" editor, and Shankbone will be back in business before March Madness tips off.

It's just the nature of obsessive-compulsive personalities. I know them well.

Fair enough. From an initial reading it looked like he wanted to donate to WR but didn't know how to do it. Which was why a referral to mgt. seemed appropriate. Still not sure what he intended at the end, although the ambiguous notion of "contribution" (images to Commons? Cash to Greg or WR?) has become contingent upon me ceasing something I don't think I've ever done to him. An excuse to vanish with the cash in a cloud of FUD?

I may be way off base here, but I tend to think that the David Shankbone article appeared as Shankbone himself was already preparing to move on. I don't think that his withdrawal from WP was the result of the article being deleted, but it accelerated the pace. I'm sure there would have been a small amount of activity maintaining and polishing his bio, but I think he was already winding down.

Perhaps he was aware that the tide was finally turning against him and he wanted to get that bio up while he still could. He was a bit too late. Between the editors who had grown tired of his antics and those who were concerned that it would become a target, he couldn't keep it up. Add to this the increased scrutiny his edits were receiving because of the bio and it was just time to call it a day.

He has said that things are going well for him in his real life right now, so hopefully he will be able to make a permanent break from WP and not keep coming back to snipe at his foes with sockpuppets. But getting Shankbone to give WR $50 is about as likely as ... well ... nevermind, I was going to something about Daniel Brandt taking down Hivemind, but you can make your own joke here involving some combination of horses, Crisco, Ron Livingston, and a fictional casting director...

My dear Witch, you weren't making things any easier for those of us who didn't have to "recuse ourselves" (i.e.: who couldn't give a crap about "His Majesty"'s antics) by taunting him here on WR (which he clearly reads).

"Drama reducing" my ass. I haven't the slightest idea what you two were jabbing each other about, but you sure seem to know where his buttons are and what the buttons do.
