Seeya Piperdown. As I just said to someone on IRC:

[16:58] (Viridae): well
[16:58] (Viridae): there is a lesson for all the nasty people out there: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=...oldid=194366008
[16:58] (Viridae): treat people nicely and they generally react the same way
[16:58] (Viridae): wow
[16:58] (Viridae): who would have though
[16:58] (Viridae): t

Good luck, enjoy your new life free of WP.

I'll second that, though to be honest I shall mainly be glad not to see that Avatar again wink.gif

I hope you don't get too many withdrawal symptoms from WR and find yourself a suitable new fixationhobby to fill your time, hopefully something in real life that has fun and fresh air.

QUOTE(Piperdown @ Tue 26th February 2008, 10:48pm) *

My intent is now to stop posting here, as I stated I would if the situation of my WP blocking were resolved. While I doubt that unblocking will go quietly into the WP night, let's hope it does. ...
I did paint myself into a bit of a corner with my pledge.

Well, we'll leave a light on for you here, just in case someone gives you the old double-cross. But if not, if was nice having you.

Not to put a damper on things, but I think we have to assume that the backlash against those who have been working on this whole Weissocks problem over there is just getting organized. I suspect the whole SirFozzie investigation and the events that followed sort of hit them by surprise.

Traditionally, Wikipedia has always been all about the revenge... Maybe that's changing, but it's probably too early to tell, even in just this one instance. If the various players are lucky, it may just resolve itself into ongoing grumbling about "troll-enabling" and such. We'll see soon enough!

Meanwhile, if Piperdown leaves, that just puts more pressure on me to provide an ongoing stream of low-grade wisecracks, puns, and double-entendre, doesn't it? Dammit, don't go, man! ohmy.gif

Indeed. But c'mon. Have you not seen my Piper tribute video? Is that not keeping the double-entendre spirit alive? And it's a genuine expression from an old Robbie Burns poem as well!

No, that's not what's going to happen. People are waking up.

Wikipedia's political direction, even sans the deus ex machina of new hands on the foundation, is far from unalterable.

We see a flowering of rhetoric, of opinions, of reviews of and about Wikipedia - like those found on the Wikipedia Review. Speaking the truth changes minds. Here, we're allowed to do it freely, and so freely we do.

Truth: Jimbo, Morven, JzG, "Cabal:" You've been had.

It's a matter of which comes first -- spring (in the Northern Hemisphere) or Piperdown's next block.

WP hasn't shown the collective intelligence or class to leave well enough alone. They will provoke another block just as soon as they think nobody's looking.

Wow. He ran the gauntlet and came out the other side. That's a remarkable accomplishment.

Doubleplus, it's the first time in these pages that I've seen an exception to Moulton's Law: Once a bureaucracy makes a mistake, it can't be fixed.

Yeah, but look at what happened in Australia. They apologized to the aborigines, and the aborigines turned right around and sued 'em. The Ingrates!

That's why the U.S. Cavilry never apologizes.

Nice words Piperdown.

Obviously, you and I know that leaving here, or Wikipedia for that matter, does not make a whole lot of sense in the macro scheme of things...at least as it applies to the Once and Forever universe.

I suspect you are far too much of a player to be out of it for the duration, so until you get a new "handle" or fake profile, or you can come back as a real live person with a real name, I hope and pray that the lessons herein and at WP will hold a candle out there for all the world to see.

It only takes an inner mounting flame and a flicker of light against the darkness to solve mysteries and create a new dawn.

Thank you for being legitimate and sharing some wisdom. smile.gif

Sorry to put a downer on this, but could this not be a sneaky little move to allow Mantanmoreland and associated drama to just "go away" for a while, only to resurface ala Jayjg a few months down the line?

First, how do I "scramble" my password on WP. I am now logged in and don't see anything but the New password form.

Take the new password form, type something random without looking into the first password field. Copy and paste it to the second field, and submit. log out and you NEVER EVER come in again!

Is there a whim-inspired fool,
Owre fast for thought, owre hot for rule,
Owre blate to seek, owre proud to snool,
Let him draw near;
And owre this grassy heap sing dool,
And drap a tear.

Is there a bard of rustic song,
Who, noteless, steals the crowds among,
That weekly this area throng,
O, pass not by!
But, with a frater-feeling strong,
Here, heave a sigh.

Is there a man, whose judgment clear
Can others teach the course to steer,
Yet runs, himself, life's mad career,
Wild as the wave,
Here pause-and, thro' the starting tear,
Survey this grave.

The poor inhabitant below
Was quick to learn the wise to know,
And keenly felt the friendly glow,
And softer flame;
But thoughtless follies laid him low,
And stain'd his name!

Reader, attend! whether thy soul
Soars fancy's flights beyond the pole,
Or darkling grubs this earthly hole,
In low pursuit:
Know, prudent, cautious, self-control
Is wisdom's root.

-- Robert Burns, "A Bard's Epitaph"

Piper, you achieved an appropriate level of irreverence. I haven't often witnessed such a thing. Take care.
