Actually it's because I've had a lot of "WTF is this guy a sysop???" questions since Friday. I also happen to be stuck on the couch with a bad cold, so figured I'd get it over with while I'm miserable anyway.

Actually it's because I've had a lot of "WTF is this guy a sysop???" questions since Friday. I also happen to be stuck on the couch with a bad cold, so figured I'd get it over with while I'm miserable anyway.

Frankly, it's been an appalling situation for a long time. I stopped promoting Wikiversity to the alternative education crowd because of Ottava's antics. There are minor problems with maybe one or two other sysops, at most. Nothing approaching Ottava, nothing that simple maturity is not likely to fix. Nothing that would even make me think of a Community Review, even though I disagree strongly with some positions of these.

Ottava is now threatening SBJ for merely proposing undeletion of the IRC logs that Ottava deleted, while very clearly involved, a self-serving use of tools, even if a colossally stupid one. I think he just blew off his other foot. How the guy is still standing, I don't know. Deep denial, my guess....

It could be the "it always worked before" effect. I.e., the wiki doesn't notice, or does nothing, when you do A, B, C, and perhaps it ignored the complaints that some made about those actions, so, of course, you belief you have been confirmed by "consensus," and expect the community not mind when you do D, E, and F, which are maybe only a little worse than A, B, C.

Ottava's made this preposterous claim before. It flies with all the grace of a lead butterfly. Ottava is referring to netknowledge.org, which is an alternate site started when it became apparent that certain educational activities were not safe under the WMF umbrella. Universities cooperate with each other and make no attempt to be monopolies, and that there are multiple universities means that local governmental bias cannot warp a subject overall. Academic freedom is truly important to intellectual life and true education.

You attack anyone who interferes with your agenda. I blocked you for two hours for calling SBJ a liar without necessity on Wikiversity, and you could not wait two hours to let it expire, and you went to meta and lied to them about Wikiversity policy to get a quick desysop. You revision-deleted your own block log, and haven't apparently noticed that this was slapped down.

I didn't contest that because I don't waste the time of stewards over short-term inconsequential stuff. But it was quite obvious, and was noticed at meta. And that whole sequence wasn't, shall we say, popular at Wikiversity.

You were admonished by the only active bureaucrat at the time, when the block was reviewed by him, and still you persisted, proceeding to attack that bureaucrat as well, and ignoring his warnings. You pushed and pushed, with a community that is truly tolerant, very tolerant, maybe too tolerant, sometimes. It's all over, [Ottava]. You went way too far.

So Ottava will have a handy business when he loses his Wikiversity hobby. Nice to know that people have alternatives. I was greatly benefited by being topic-banned on Wikipedia, since I was topic-banned, no need to avoid becoming COI!

Wow, isn't that weird thinking, that I'd avoid a chance to do real science and perhaps be published in a scientific journal, in order to freely edit Wikipedia? What was I thinking, I must have been drinking!

You are still locked, which applies to all Wikis even if a glitch says otherwise. And you are still banned via authority of Jimbo which didn't retroactively end. Community consensus cannot override it, and, even if it could, it would have to happen via Meta, which I cannot find.

What is this global lock of which you speak? You mean, I was guilty of one (or more) of the following?

Global locking is a technical way to prevent a user from being able to log into a named account on all Wikimedia projects where that account has been unified. It is generally applied to vandalism-only accounts, though in rare cases until global blocking is extended to named accounts, users who would be eligible for a global block are locked in this way as well.

Its not cruel. It is true. They brought in people with fringe relationships with it to stack the deck so, if they want to play that way then let them have a destroyed Wiki.

I was doing all the work, and they are too lazy to do it. They are rarely around. Sometimes people need to learn the hard way.


I do love this back and forth, where one of the opposers who has no real background and suddenly jumped in to join with the group was offered mentorship by Jtneill who never did any investigating, and it takes Diego to point out that he has cross-wiki problems.

Definitely seems like Wikiversity will be on the fast pace to hell.
