Ryulong before being an admin harassed everyone, was a bully, etc. But he constantly blanked any and all criticism of Wikipedia or its admins. So The Cabal loved him. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=...oldid=102852385 quoting as it could one day be oversighted QUOTE ==A note on Ryulong==
I have promoted Ryulong to sysop. While some might object that he was below 70% support (with 69.4%), I believe, based on my interactions with him, that he would make a good sysop, and it would be a mistake not to promote him. [[User:Raul654|Raul654]] 06:22, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

69.4% vs 70% seems close enough to me.
Where did he blank criticism of Wikipedia?
I agree, however, that any time you bash a Wikipedia critic, or an enemy of the cabal, you get points.
It's kind of like a game.
You start off with 100 points. If you get down to 0 then you are banned, game over. If you get up to 1,000 then you can became an administrator. 5,000 points get you in to the cabal.
Bash a critic and you gain 5 points per bash. Bash a "good guy" and you lose 10 points, unless you've been granted a "shield" by a member of the cabal, in which case you can bash 2 or 3 "good guys" and not lose any points. You tend to get a shield because you bash a critic in front of a cabal member, or do something else to suck up to them.
Pointing out potential sock puppets, or otherwise getting enemies banned also get you points. Reverting vandalism gets you points. Tracking abusive editors gets you points.
You can get points slowly through regular article edits, but only a certain amount per day. However, if you want to become an admin, then you need to have a certain amount of these, spaced out nicely.
You lose points if you ever get blocked, no matter why you got blocked. 3RR is less serious, and you may only lose 50 points for that. Any other blocks can be worth 200 points or more, up to 1,000 points.
If you choose to become an administrator, you have more opportunity to get points for bashing people, but you get less bonus points per bash. You also lose less points for bashing good guys, although you still lose mega points for bashing the cabal.
There are certain "death traps" however. Any serious criticism, or taking on the cabal in battle, or trying to get a controlled article corrected are like hot lava, and you lose points quickly the longer that you are involved. Your only possible avenue is to get out of the lava and run away, throwing fake apologies as you are going, as the only hope to still have points left.
If you still have at least 50 points left, you can create a second account and start over, but if you use both accounts at once you share points, and have extra death traps, that of being caught out.
It's kind of like a computer game. Someone should write a simple little DOS game called Wikipedia Wars and see how it goes. Maybe even make it in to a mud. Might be fun. Anyone want to help to code it?

Already exists: http://common-lisp.net/project/lifp/rouge.htmDescription: QUOTE The game takes a satirical approach at Wikipedia. Your character is a "rouge" admin, and you must commit as many outrageous actions as possible before you'll get forced out of Wikipedia. For each such action you'll get Rouge points. You also have Karma points, which are given for good actions and subtracted for bad actions. When you have low karma, people would hate you a lot. You might like this part: QUOTE * noob - very weak and very stupid. If welcomed, becomes user. * user - standard guy without any special powers. If user is especially good, he gets promoted to admin * vandals - there are several types, but all of them are very evil * troll - attacks people at random * admin - can delete stuff and ban users (with banhammer). * bureaucrat - can promote users to admins * Jimbo Wales - mostly just wanders around Direct download: http://common-lisp.net/project/lifp/rouge.zip

There was a huge row about this at the time, probably by far the biggest there's ever been about an AfD. People aren't normally adminned on 70%, let alone under. I think you can take this as a clear example of the cabal looking after its own. Right, it isn't a case of "close enough". 70% is treated as the bare minimum, so to be promoted at anything less is unacceptable. Now, personally, I'm in favor of lowering the minimum; I like 65%, I could even envision 60%, but equal standards must be applied. If Ryulong is going to be promoted, then everybody else who gets at least 69% should be promoted as well.

From memory, it was pretty crappy.

Writing four featured articles made me a danger to the project.

The sad part is that Ryulong has probably been one of the worst since being promoted. His buddies even went out of their way to squash a petition for recall, so I'm told. I mean, seriously. EDIT: For the hell of it, I decided to see if I could track it down - here it is, and none other than WJBScribe rescued him from the abyss. Now that's funny.
