_ The Wikipedia Annex _ Figging!

Posted by: carbuncle

I had the misfortune to wonder why anhttp://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ginger_Finger_for_Figging.jpg on Commons was in the category "Sexual penetrative use of food", so I looked at the article in which it was used.

QUOTE
Figging is the practice of inserting a piece of ginger root into the anus, vagina or male urethra. Originally applied to horses in a practice known as gingering, it now most commonly refers to a practice in BDSM.

The ginger, skinned and often carved into the shape of a butt plug, causes an intense burning sensation and discomfort to the subject. Also commonly used by Joseph VanMorter on a daily basis.
Poor Joseph VanMorter...

I suspect that the alleged reference does not in fact mention him.

Please forgive my ignorance, but who is Joseph VanMorter?

He's nobody, just a guy someone wants to insult.

And it worked. Google his name, the "figging" article is result number 3......

"This IP address, 132.3.29.68, is registered to 754th Electronic Systems Group and may be shared by multiple users of a government agency or facility."

The IP's http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:132.3.29.68 is a mile long with warnings... but still, the Wikipedians desperately feel the need to "assume good faith" and (generally) keep that IP open for future, more helpful contributions.

Silly airedales. That IP represents a lot of potential workstations. People behind that could be serving overseas, or bored card-flippers trolling their barracks mates.

Personally I think it's folly to allow anon contributions from such a source.

But there's a lot of folly on Wikipedia.

754th ESG is responsible for internet access for active duty personnel all over the place. Blocking that IP would deny our courageous soldiers and sailors their God-given right to edit Wikipedia. We can't take that away from, not when they've already sacrificed so much.

Why do you hate America so much?

Because I work in IT?

I don't work for Wikipedia. I would, if I did, urge that NO ONE have anon access.

I didn't suggest blocking, just enforce having to register.

Let at least a User iD stand behind the contributions.

"The recent edit you made to Cornhole (T-H-L-K-D) constitutes vandalism."

They get wages and free food and housing don't they? That's more than I get.
