there is neither here nor there, but per antisocialmedia.net sleuthing, weiss used to go by "pascallamb" or "pascalamb" for an aol account on "usenet".

So did Shankbone adopt this surname as a meatspace name as well? If there's no record of it ever being used a real-world surname, it wouldn't be the first case of a flamboyant self-promoter taking on a stage name in the real world.

What a bizarre coincidence. Both he and Weiss seem to have a connection to Fordham University. I can't find any record of a David Shankbone being linked to anything before he created his Wikipedia account in 2006.

It would also give new meaning to the word, "meatpuppet"

I thought that Gary Weiss was older, though.

i dunno where you get the idea i was trying to tie those 2 together. i thought "neither here nor there" was clear enough.

possibly concealing the fact that they are Jewish (they specifically lay out their ancestry as 1/4 Dutch, 1/4 Irish, and 1/2 German mentioning nothing about being Jewish).
I'm not sure if you are American, but in the U.S., your religion is generally viewed as being no one's business - not the same thing outside the U.S., where politics and religion are arguably more intertwined, at least in Europe and the Middle East.

And there were a lot of Jewish people in Holland and Germany. Not that it matters if he is or not again.

But he's a Wikinews reporter, and his getting picked seems kind of normal, especially for a media mad self-promoter.

weiss has no connection with fordham whatsoever. that was part of his essjay attempt to try and pretend he is something he's not in order to gain higher ground of neutrality or expertise in controversial matters.

he was trying to appear neutral on judaical topics on wp by posing as a catholic. he ain't. he's also not in/from New Mexico as his Lastexit "alternate account" claims either.

A Foreign Ministry of a country pays a guy to come to their country to show him the "reality", and then promotes this in the leading national newspaper and talks about "shaping" public opinion. But then it turns out this guy is in fact using a false name. Of course that matters.

Sure, they are shitty governments as well. However, so is Israel and Mr. "Shankbone" is not going to report the "truth".

Their POV pushers article on Taner Akçam did such a good job he got detained in US and Canadian customs last spring. So yeah.

I wouldn't call that an islamic POV push. Each of the Islam-predominated Middle Eastern governments or Magrhebian governments (North African) have their own "twist" of POV, with varying levels (and styles) of islamic POV pushing.

I think that the extremist islamic POV'ers get reigned in by the fact that Wikipedia has such a heavy US influence, in terms of editors (and cabal clout). I would be more curious about the Arabic Wikipedia, where Americans (and the cabal) can't read what goes on there.

Sometimes it's just a "pro government" POV, as in the case of Taner Akçam, who disagreed with the government's view of history. The Turkish government has been veering towards secularism for quite some time, but has some strong points of view about "facts", ahem.

Do you know where Weiss studied? Anyway, he clearly has a strong interest in Fordham for whatever reason due to his edits, so maybe Mr."Pascalamb" is a friend of Mr. "Shankbone"?

according to weiss, he is an alumnus of Northwestern University in Chicago, degree in journalism. No graduate degrees noted, and no mention of a second career pursuing an mba at fordham, just 'criticising' Patrick Byrne on stock message boards and blogs for 2 years with his equal rights to point out how many testicles Byrne has, long before Wordbomb started on WP or with Overstock.

weiss is born and bred New Yorker. he is also a Bronx School of Sci/Math (or close to that name) graduate. Fordham is a very well known New York institution. I know these things because Mantanmoreland tells us so on WP.

If you're trying to paint yourself as a Jesuit/Catholic New Yorker, Fordham is the Notre Dame of NYC. This is also the same reason he chose to pick out a prominient catholic church in NYC to create an article on. As well as a BLP of a NYC priest noted for his Catholic-Jewish relations efforts. This is all to provide some wikistreet cred that his a noble and unbiased Martin-Luther-Started-Nazism efforts ;-)

although he forgot to log in once and gave away his DTCC second career. like a cat with allergies, he has more careers than walter mitty.

samiharris probably posted from a Northwestern IP, fwiw, in what appeared to be a similar "forgot to login" oops on an article with no edits for months, then suddenly a NWU IP followed by a samiharris edit. I forget what article, let me look up my old WP userpage to see the link.

yes, that aol account is duly noted on ASM for much more than that. It was amazing to me what ASM was able to show based on an email address used in Businessweek over 10 years ago.

There are some very good reasons that ASM was able to come to its conclusions, and WP'ians think so highly of those facts they've decided to WP:IAR and call it rubbish. That's unspeakable and unlinkable.

But for Brandt, it's OK to run down draft card burning incidnets from 1969.

it could have been a hairy cat named sammy. changed to "i" to protect the innocent kitty. LOL !!

when i followed through ASM's trails to those links, i actually became more sympathetic to the guy. i really don't think we'd be offering much to WR by going down that road here, unless its something that specifically points to WP abuse. Although the history of sockpuppetry and POV pushing before WP is consistent with his WP activities.

True, there's no evidence he's done anything ill. Just seems amazingly happy cooperating with Wikipedia, to do fun things. Which is fine, except for that it's such a moral sewer, that anyone who does that is (unfortunately) suspect.

there's not much ill evidence any more, but old diffs show he went on a Link Spam rampage in 2006 to include weiss's latest book in any remotely related article, and to talk to himself (as noted by Thatch & Fred) to give appearances of "consensus" in very heated wikiwars.

This is very much doing ill in Wikiterms, and Wordbomb was quite right to point it out to slim. Who was quite wrong to pass on that "private email" to weiss, and superficially declare it meaningless on-wiki.

Of course Byrne having made Slimmy cry in nineteen eighty-something had nothing to do with all that, because we know SV isnt the kind of gal to hold 15 year grudges against people, like say, Pierre Salinger.

Yeah I feel really sorry for Gary, it must be really hard being such a self promotionist, giving top ratings for your own books, editing your own article with multiple accounts and then convincing a whole lot of other people that you are being attacked because they say you are a self promotionist who is using multiple accounts to protect themselves and attack their opponents. Hmmmm.

at least he's not showing off his shankbone on his user page like David.

I am really stunned that a "leading Wikipedian" has a picture on his front page of his own ass, and not in a humourous way, but in a "call me about it, luv!" way.

Stunned still. Shocker Sunday. See all about David Shankbone's purty ass on his user page. And check out if "BodyParts" subpage if you're interested. i'm not, and neither should Wikipedia.

Wheter the Israeli Government has any takers on that subpage remains to be seen. You know what they say about 10% loving to shank the bone....

OK he gave his real name as David Miller when he asked for accreditation on Wikinews. I would have thought the Israeli Foreign Ministry would have insisted he use his real name for such a high profile visit. huh.gif
