Despite it not being Saturday yet, Risker has already identified as a "new enwiki arbcom member". Strange, I thought the new members were being announced on Saturday?
Jimbo told me I was being appointed to the ArbCom nearly a month before he actually announced it. It wouldn't surprise me if he's told his choices, or at least some of them, already.

Good to see RunTaxGuyCatoLister still on that list. Obviously no "false identity" concerns there, then.

More interesting is the addition of Coren seeing as he came 10th. Either Jimbo's passing over candidates with more % support or he's appointing at least 10 new Arbs....

WTF?? Coren came 10th according to the list... how many is Jimbo planning to appoint? Or another question, dare I ask, how many people is he planning to bypass in the final results?

Or maybe he's firing and replacing some arbs? That's a possibility... ermm.gif

So cary requested the data? Can anyone else (one?) confirm this? Or has jimbo been involved.

Thanks. I'm a little alarmed that no one has asked me to identify yet, but perhaps Coren is just more familiar with the process.

Who asks for the identification?

It depends on the context. When a new CU (or CU pair for a wiki that never had CUs before) is elected, usually the first steward to notice the request at m:SRP does it. (there is a boilerplate mail to use which gives instructions on how to identify to Cary)

Anyone CAN identify to the foundation at any time, if they wish to... for any reason or no reason at all... it's just that they HAVE to for certain roles. As it turned out I identified well before I took on the first role that required it (although that was because it was a perquisite for standing in an election that I lost).

There was some discussion prior to the AC election about requiring all candidates to identify in advance but it was decided that it was unlikely that a serious candidate would run, and then refuse to identify...

It amuses me that I'm "identified to the Foundation" but not listed as such on that page. Of course, I did so before the policy existed, and since I did so to Brad Patrick and to Danny Wool, in person in Boston, I imagine Cary simply has no record of it.

I am tempted to run for checkuser on Commons just to force the issue, but I doubt I'd pass.

"I will simply strongly discourage private votes of any kind." "I will simply state that I will be strongly inclined to overturn on appeal any decision of the ArbCom that did not include a public discussion and vote."

"I request the new ArbCom to reflect on and discuss the creation of a method for the community recall of unpopular ArbCom members. ... I would like to see a procedure in place by the time of the next election."

Very good news across the board, I think.

I also approve the rationale and comments - and said so, too. Jimbo has surprised me, here, by the clue shewn - his performance with the tools this last year had not indicated such an appreciation of the growing demands of the community. It may be that there are other voices he listens to, and that is never a bad thing for even the most enlightened of "leaders".

Perhaps community recall of CheckUsers and admins in general can also be considered?
