Wikipedia is, by its own "simple self portrait" an encyclopedia that anyone can change or add-to. Of course, there are editors, who seem to do a pretty good job of keeping content relevant and useful, and of removing blatant attempts...

It looks like the author of this one is familiar with Wikipedia Review, at least. The article also links to an interesting discussion here:

...Which appears to be a forum for webmasters trying to get better search rankings. It clearly shows that webmasters aren't happy with Wikipedia's preferential Google rankings (no surprise there), and they're not happy with the way Wikipedians steal their content and then refuse to link back to it (uh, I guess no surprise there either).

I believe it was Daniel Brandt who first said Wikipedia has become the World's Largest Spam Engine... This suggests that webmasters are dealing with this by adopting an "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" strategy, though in most cases reluctantly. Poor blighters.
