QUOTE(thekohser @ Wed 30th December 2009, 9:09am) Tons of famous Wikipedians will be there. Wow, an all-star line-up! Miss Clin, Mr. Brad, Mr. Randy (not the one from Boise), Dan "How I Won the War" Rosenthal and (pause for the kodo drum pounding) the two-and-only Kat Walsh! (IMG: smilys0b23ax56/default/boing.gif) QUOTE(thekohser @ Wed 30th December 2009, 9:09am) I think part of the reason is the "Unlimited Soda Pop".
Wow, Pizza Buffet! In a great food town like DC, this is the best they can come up with? In honor of the kid in Africa, they should be dining out at this super Washington establishment!QUOTE(thekohser @ Wed 30th December 2009, 9:09am) I wish I could go, but I have prior commitments to have my toenails clipped and I'm also dropping off our accumulated plastic grocery bags into one of those recycling barrels at the supermarket. I could have bummed a ride with Sageross, too. (IMG: smilys0b23ax56/default/unhappy.gif) I live less than hour from Sage -- I should stop by his house to borrow some beer. Oh, WTF -- let's crash the party! We know where it is and we know what these characters look like. Come on, if Tareq and Michaele Salahi can do it, why can't we? All if favor of crashing the party, raise your hoofs! (IMG: smilys0b23ax56/default/evilgrin.gif) This post has been edited by A Horse With No Name:

QUOTE(GlassBeadGame @ Wed 30th December 2009, 2:44pm) Pseudonymously offering to provide a ride is probably a good way of obtaining private time in a situation in which you exercise a high degree of control with people who are too young to have a drivers license. A more prudent project might be concerned about that.
(IMG: smilys0b23ax56/default/laugh.gif) (IMG: smilys0b23ax56/default/laugh.gif) I probably shouldn't have laughed out loud when I read that, but I have to admit that I did. Not because I think you're wrong, but because I think you're right.

Well I'm going to the London meetup on the 17th http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Meetup/London/29I'm sure I'll get a resounding welcome. Hey, I'll go if you do... I imagine the pair of us turning up would be the Wikipedia equivalent of a strippagram at a Requiem Mass. I think it could be quite a constructive meeting - people find it quite difficult to be the loonies they appear to be on line in person. It could also be an interesting bit of research because having made that comment, there are signs that the corrosion of common sense that occurs online does seem to leak into the real world.

What exactly do you mean by that? Lots of things (IMG: smilys0b23ax56/default/biggrin.gif) However, the main point is that most normal people are far more reasonable in person than in email so you should be able to have constructive discussions about things that trouble you and be heard - it is quite difficult to reproduce a pile-on like on Wikipedia in real life. Most Wikipedians come across as quite odd when you look at the way they conduct themselves - most normal people simply don't get involved once you try going to the admin pages expecting common sense.

In honor of the kid in Africa, they should be dining out at this super Washington establishment!Yes, there are a lot of great restaurants in DC, so I wonder why they're choosing Uno? I assume because it's near Union Station it makes traveling easier for out-of-town attendees, Uno has lower prices than the more upscale restaurants around the downtown DC and Capital Hill areas, and pizza is a food that most people can eat.
