Oh, there was one other classic moment with Pschemp. As a ruse, I put the wikitext of the Aaron's, Inc. article from Wikipedia onto my early paid-editing Wikipedia Review site. That made it look like Aaron's was possibly a paying client of mine. (Of course, they weren't.)

The test worked flawlessly, leading Pschemp (who was snooping around my site to try to "catch" paid editing clients) to nominate the article for deletion. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Aaron%27s, for a chuckle.

I tend to agree with Eva Destruction. Hivemind is basically Daniel's playground for getting back at admins - and editors, and anyone associated with Wikipedia - he doesn't like.

I'd like to see all admins act appropriately and not abuse their position. "Outing" them probably won't make them suddenly change their ways.

It might be a game to some, but most people just want to get on with it without abuse from cranks.

I asked Brandt about this -- he said that Peter's ID is no secret (his real name is in his WP handle and he is on Facebook for all the world to see). It makes sense -- the Hiveminded crowd were mostly hiding behind pseudonyms, with only a couple of exceptions.

The Spanish one is only two lines, says virtually nothing, and is untouched since 2007. Daniel need lose no sleep at all over it. The Polish one is much more substantial, complete with 15 references. I suspect it's a translation of some version of the English article. Any Polish speakers about?

It is a little difficult to get in touch with Daniel to offer updates to the list.

I cannot think of any "good guys" that I would want to protect. I can think of a lot of idiots I think should be on the list and connected to their real life identities ... but then I think all Pee-dia accounts should be.

Well the Polish one doesn't look too bad; it puts Daniel in a reasonably favourable light. I think I remember much worse stuff in the English version. And as for Esperanto, no doubt there are Wikipedia enthusiasts who've learnt it specially so there can be yet another glorious Wikipedia.


No doubt Daniel's outed lots of people. However, considering the alleged reason for Hivemind thare are far too many people on it who have never hidden their identities. Also, people should come off it once they cease to be active admins.

Luna Santin (even bigger twat. Especially with a feminine-sounding username [despite having self-identified as male], as well as referring to everyone as "they", "them", or "their", regardless of whether that person's gender is obvious, and using commas in places they don't need to be used)

I'm afraid I have to agree - Mr. Rick should try to show us evidence of irrational opposition to much-needed reforms; link to their use of histrionics, strawmen, and needlessly hyperbolic statements to "win" arguments; show us blocks and deletions in support of an ideological agenda. Bear in mind that there's little need to know who an admin is if he/she isn't exhibiting some fairly clear signs of a real (not just Wikipedia-defined) conflict of interest, or issue advocacy that goes beyond mere agreement with one side or another. Particularly if the topic areas he/she is working on are socially significant in some way.

Then again, as I often say, we can't dismiss the possibility that some admins want their identities to become known, if only for the thrill of believing that someone actually cares about who they are.

As for the two for whom Mr. Rick didn't give us any reasons at all, I'd have to say Smashville (T-C-L-K-R-D) does seem somewhat rude and declines a lot of unblock requests... but ultimately he's not all that bad, and he mostly sticks to sports-related subjects - so he's not much of a threat to corrupt the minds of the young or anything like that. Meanwhile, MuZemike (T-C-L-K-R-D) is one of those "sock puppet investigator" types, nearly all of whom are unpleasant to some degree. But that doesn't mean there's any real need to know who he is, unless some of the aforementioned behaviors apply (and if they do in his case, I'm not really seeing it?)...

Maybe, but I suspect Mr. Rick is merely representative of the sort of person we've been seeing a bit more of lately, someone who has recently become disenchanted with Wikipedia after trying for a while to be a participant there, but who has yet to see past Wikipedia's internally-defined conception of what makes a "good editor" - and, in more general terms, what defines a person as "beneficial." In other words, he hasn't yet made the conceptual leap required to see that someone Wikipedia would define as "beneficial" is actually someone society in general would define as "non-beneficial," if not "malevolent."

I, for one, hope that Mr. Rick will quickly gain a fuller understanding of the larger issues involved, and be less concerned with "petty" and "silly" issues involving payback for various personal slights and so forth. I'd also be curious to know what his favorite breakfast cereal is, but that's only because I'm thinking of making a switch myself and need recommendations.

Simon Baron-Cohen (arguably the world expert on Aspergers Syndrome) has developed an instrument for measuring where one lies along the continuous spectrum from Aspergers Syndrome (AS) to Neurotypical (NT).

When I took his test (which is based on associating affective emotional states with pictures of facial expressions focusing on just the eyes), I fell smack in middle, halfway between AS and NT.

So I'm neither Aspergers nor Neurotypical.
