_ JzG _ Please, dear God, will someone take JzG's stupid admin tools
Posted by: Bob Boy
JzG's beyond-bizarre behavior has continued despite his statement that he will (na-na-na-I-can't-hear-you-na-na-na) not look at his RfC even though arbitrators and long-respected admins and users are commenting there. For the love of Allah, Jesus Christ, YHWH, Buddha, orwhatever else is required, will someone please, please look at his recent activities and put in a request to de-sysop his stupid ass?

There's a reason, well, a cause or a motive why Wikipedia Manglement just can't do that.
Wikipedia is the very antithesis of an Error-Controlled System. It acts to maintain its delusion of infallibility at all costs, denying whatever errors it makes and banning or muffling whatever messengers it takes to preserve the infantile fantasy that it never makes any mistakes.
The day that they admit that adminning Guy Chapman was one of the biggest mistakes they ever made they will have to start thinking of all the good people that he ran off the project.
And they cannot afford to own up to that.
It might make them feel human.

The Arbitration Committee is much too impotent to actually sanction an admin for continually being stupid. There has to be a big incident people can point to, and say "look, THIS is why he needs to be desysopped". Otherwise, we're just engaging in "statistical analysis of questionable veracity" regarding his edits.

We are about to see if Arbcom is impotent (JzG request for arbitration):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_arbitration#JzG
... and yes they are... the arbs want to combine it with Cal68's arbitration, a totally unrelated case.

As one of our best admins who works tirelessly Guy is bound to attract enemies but that is not a reason to see him brought here to arbcom. His British way of expression may be a bit much for some non-British people butt hat is not a reason to bring him to arbcom either. If this case is accepted I hope that Guy will come out of it not only better than his opponents but with an enhaced reputation. This is the kind of admin we need, trying to chase him away is not on. Guy is a certain kind of Brit that you have to understand though, and despite my stinging criticism of some of his behavior, he is a very human figure whose motives are familiar and easy to discern. At least to me. I just think he's
wrong a lot of the time.
I set him apart from those Midwich Cuckoo kids and crazed American libertarians on wikipedia who scare the crap out of me.
When JzG goes nuts I can hear his voice as human. When those weirdos go off the rails I hear either HAL, or the voice of some shrill South Park caricature.

I have pointed out my hard swearing, insult flinging australian heritage several times in response to those who have used Guy's british status as an excuse. I might have a filthier mouth than most peole around but that doesnt mean it needs to be displayed in a forum where it is likely to be misconstrued. If you were French or even a Francophone like (say) Wjscriber, we could forgive you for that. But I fail to see what this does for Brits accused of being foul-mouthed.
I'm sure some of this is a class-thing (Maybe he's from the wrong part of Manchester?), but just about anybody with frontal lobes and age over 18 has learned to moderate speech in some way in polite society or discourse.
Has the Chunnel really resulted in more cunt-using Brits?

It is really depressing to even have to argue this. Using extremely bad language like this
in public is something that is simply jolly well not done in Britain. As I am sure I have said before, what is appropriate on the shop floor, or down the pub
between friends is not generally accepted - and in fact, if groups talked loudly using bad language in many civilised pubs they would be told to keep it down, or get on their bikes.
The level I would put Wikipedia at is that of a public meeting place where you know that you will be overheard. Any reasonable Brit would know to avoid bad language in such a context. Indeed, plenty of people would be happy to point out politely that bad language is not appropriate. The BBC 606 boards do not tolerate any bad language at all.
It is not that we don't hear it, it is not that we don't use it, it is that we think it doesn't reflect well on us. Call me old fashioned, but I do find it nicer to get through the day avoiding the issue of whether the someone who called me a wanker was
really my mate or not. Actually, being called a fool is usually much more hurtful, as there is no getting around the intent.
So this stuff about it being OK to go around Britain being foul mouthed is just more Guy lack of self-awareness. Guy is just taking people for a ride because he knows that the majority of Americans haven't a clue: America is the country where Phil Collins said wanker in Miami Vice shown on prime time networked TV because nobody knew what it meant.
Tell you what, next time you are checking in at a BA desk and you have a problem, see what happens if you say "Just fucking sort it out." I've seen it happen, and they are quite happy to refund your ticket there and then. Similarly, if a member of staff lost their cool, they would at least be on a written warning for that language.
Does Wikipedia want to aim for high standards, or stick with the lowest common denominator? It's not going to offend me greatly if there is bad language, but it would be better if there wasn'ta nd I don't see any reason for it to be tolerated - and even less so from administrators who represent the public image of Wikipedia.

It reminds me of the Zimbardo Cookie Experiment- if people have power and are sharing a plate of "cookies" with others lower in the pecking order, they will be more likely to take the last cookie, and they will eat more messily. (this used to be somewhere on wiki- not the user of the same name, the actual info, but I can't see it anywhere now. So I don't know if it's a myth.)

ROFL! (this is humourous hyperbole, for anyone who thinks I am laughing at JzG. I'm not, I just found Moulton's rhetoric amusing as even JzG is obviously far worse than that ...)
the pure lovecraftian terror when I find myself glancing at myself in the mirror and see looking back at me one of those exotically crowned, unnaturally high-foreheaded race known as a Wikipedian, those eldritch horrors that every family unfortunate enough to be fated to conceive has seen fit to hide in the catacombs beneath their mansion, for seeing these creatures causes in those who must look upon them, every nerve to spasm into unnatural angles out of fear and shame at what they have spawned.

And you know what happens when I get annoyed, don't you?
You make lots of posts?
And of course you know the role model for that practice, who perhaps considers me his rival or antagonist.
Actually, in the category of massive over-posting, you would seem to have no rival here.
Program notes: I started a thread called "JzG Deathwatch," and after editors pointed out that this had become a cliché, I renamed it "JzG DICKwatch," recalling that JzG took the honors in this year's http://wikipediareview.com/index.php?s=&showtopic=15604&view=findpost&p=76810 pageant.

Any good gag loses potency after the second or third use...
Besides, this thread should actually be merged with http://wikipediareview.com/index.php?s=&showtopic=17876&view=findpost&p=102761, as HK was three days late picking up on it. So perhaps it's a moot point?
Mainly, it just shows once again that descriptive thread titles are important to our so-called "mission."
Now, I will put the controversy at rest by following Somey's advice, and merging it.

Bit long for a thread title.
I have been known to be more loquacious than is healthy for my dwindling karma rating.

I think he would be more likely to keep it in his pants. The worst I'd expect is lots of images of women with large breasts.
No offence to JzG- this is just as a comment on the activity, o.k?- but regular cycling can have certain negative effects on a man. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/2991088.stm
God, yes. And regular cycling doesn't always cause a woman to be a basket of sunshine, either ...
