I have received a private email asking how do go about doing this. Has it ever been done successfully?

Think of it in a Zen way.

ArbCom says you are this or that. To get it appealed, make a new account. Tada! Successfully appealed. Just don't do something stupid where they'll CheckUser you.

Like the, "You do not bend the spoon with your mind for that is impossible. You realize the simple truth: There is no spoon."

It's, "You do not bend the limit against you with your mind's reasoning to ArbCom for that is impossible. You realize the simple truth: There is no limit against you."

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Arb...#Final_decision :
QUOTE
Remedies and enforcement actions may be appealed to, and are subject to veto by, Jimbo Wales.

Except that in this case, it's not a ban on an editor, but rather a policy decision.

The thing about an appeal, is it presumes the existence of an actual judicial system with rights to appeal -- Wikipedia is not such a system, it is an authoritarian state where the rules are made up as they go. If they want to give you an appeal, they will; otherwise, no.

Adhocracy? Assocracy? Colonocracy? The Rule of the Boobeoisie? Revenge of the Nerf-Brains?

Enquiring minds want to know!

Wikipologists keep trying to tell us that they've invented some Nukinda Society, but the character of the place is perfectly recognizable to anyone who's been through the ringer of your average U.S. public high school. No doubt most societies have analogous trials by ordual, but for the more culturally deprived among our readers, the nature of the Beast is quite aptly conveyed by watching old reruns of Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

Wikipedia = Sunnydale Hellmouth

That beats my old record by 1 word ...

Now, that seems a bit harsh. I mean, we don't really know that there are actual teenage emo vampires operating behind the scenes of Wikipedia (except in IRC, of course - let's not kid ourselves about that).

I should think the more accurate depiction would be something like Freaks and Geeks, or maybe Dad's Army.

Naw, I'm never so literal as all that -- well, hardly ever. I'm just saying that most folks, even without PhD's in Dev Psych or Sociology -- that Dev is for Developmental, by the way, cuz I know what yer thinking -- can recognize that Buffy gives an accurate picture of the experience, as it is experienced by those undergoing it, phenomenologically speaking, for those of us who speak phenomenologically.

I was going to suggest that it was something like a high-tech remake of one of the old "Francis the Talking Mule" movies.....
