_ Biographies of Living Persons _ Rachel Marsden say "Hi"

Some of you may recall that I made some joke animation videos about Wikipedia and posted them on YouTube. One was a recreation of choice dialog between Jimbo and Rachel Marsden, from transcripts that Rachel leaked. At any rate, someone who claims to be Rachel Marsden left a http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXWYiigNf9w

I'd like to think http://youtu.be/EqoQ3E6A5HU as well... if for nothing else but the laugh.

Indeed, I'd sooner hang out with Anne Coulter.

I don't know much about her so I didn't comment. But... Yeah I think I'd probably agree from reading some crap just now:

"former Fox News host" ...
"Obama Risks An Oil Opportunity" ...
"Canada Quits Kyoto Protocol, Dodges Tax Bullet" ...
"a lack of oversight has led to corporate welfare and an unlevel playing field — socialist government intervention in business, in other words"
... true quotes...

I can see why she would get on well with Jimmy if he still believes in objectivism...
(but I'm not too sure since he supports very un-Rand-like altruism for others these days - even if it brings gain to himself to do so, he still chooses to say those things about helping people unless he's a kind of reverse sell-out, I don't know)

She is right about this though:
http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2011-12-09/news/ct-oped-1209-wikileaks-20111209_1_cia-agents-spy-games-private-spies, Rachel Marsden, Chicago Tribune, 9th December 2011

QUOTE
Capitalism and the principle of free-market fair play get thoroughly corrupted with the outright theft of trade secrets and proprietary information. Espionage for national interest during wartime is patriotic; espionage for strictly financial benefit on behalf of some company against a competitor is grifting. Countries like France are further beefing up laws against such activity, but when uncovered, these cases are usually settled with a financial kiss-off and rarely prosecuted criminally. After all, what federal investigator would want to blow a lucrative post-retirement gig by forcing all the private-spying industry's secrets out into the open?
China is into it in a BIG way.

I can see her point with some of this, but also she seems a bit like she's allowed bitterness to take over her as she's got older - and maybe that's why she's so http://wikipediareview.com/?showtopic=36684&p=296684&#entry296684, because she's put up with so much crap being in the public eye whilst being a woman who basically ignores the patriarchal rules of acceptable female behaviour:
QUOTE
Here's the harsh reality about exceptionally accomplished women: It's a quiet, lonely, very private and incredibly long struggle. It's a lifelong commitment. There is no feel-good, publicly extolled "progress" for the individual woman who seeks a life of meaning and contribution outside society's accepted and tread-worn norms. It's an endless, highly discreet struggle, as depicted in "The Iron Lady." Yet the struggle and the achievement of great women are the only things that matter to the women who come after. Talking about women's empowerment or asking for state funding to promote it isn't going to do anything, and it never has. This isn't a team sport.

[..]reality television shows; and collect big money for lending their names to parties in Las Vegas, all the while extolling the virtues of "independence." Will these independent women be remembered in five years? Will they have contributed any significant, lasting ideas? Or will they have wasted their life? I remember asking myself the same question when I struggled with showing my legs and cleavage every day on a national cable news network while largely muzzled from contributing anything meaningful. It was an empty existence not worth the money it paid. To say that is near-blasphemous and likely brands me as an ingrate in the eyes of many women in the industry who would have done anything to fill my stilettos. So be it.

[..]While sitting on a long-haul flight on New Year's Eve, the gentleman seated beside me asked what I did for a living. As I explained my career and ambitions, he replied, "Don't you have kids? Aren't you married?" I said that neither marriage nor kids has ever been a priority, and that I could take or leave both.

"No kids?" he replied. "What will you do with your life, then?"

Horrified by his implication that a woman's life ought to be only devoted to motherhood and its value relegated to a biological function, I told him that I plan to keep focusing on trying to make my life count for something more than myself, and that maybe someday when I'm well into my old age, I'll pay lip service to societal pressures and adopt a child soldier, preferably one who grew up in the jungles of Columbia serving with the FARC, who I then wouldn't have to train to choke fools who make such idiotic remarks.
Seems pretty cool to me there at least, uncharacteristic honesty for someone in the media world, probably knowing how some might attack her for that.

Marsden has a rather disturbing history of sexual harassment and stalking, which is http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Rachel_Marsden&action=historysubmit&diff=473648066&oldid=472865423 A good part (if not all) of the reason she hooked up with Jimbo in 2008 was to have this history wished into the cornfield with a permanent ban on its re-creation. When the sex-for-edits scandal broke, not only did the material return, there is now an additional paragraph describing the scandal with copious references. rolleyes.gif

I'm pretty sure I'm not the first to observe here that Rachel and Jimbo truly deserve one another. hmmm.gif

It's still nice when some work that you did is recognized by someone whose opinion is relevant and familiar with the subject.

Upon advice of counsel, I assert my 5th amendment rights. I should mention though that unless you have really gnarly software installed on your computer, all MIDI files will tend to sound like the Pacman theme. Also, the "novelty items" on that page are just bizarre no matter how you slice it. But I have some stuff on my YouTube page that I think is worth listening to.

Look, I didn't say that I wanted to date her or endorse her political views. I just consider her to be a significant person in the history of Wikipedia scandals.
