In Jan 2006 Mantanmoreland began posting on the "OSTK" board on yahoo finance as "lamborghini751", later "frankiedarrow" - note that Frankie Darro's historical relationship with "Mantan Moreland" in movies: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mantan_MorelandHis 3rd post was to promote GW's blog, which had begun its "Smear Campaign" against Byrne and others who "oppose naked short selling". http://messages.finance.yahoo.com/Stocks_(...591228946062834It's also the same time that GW started on WP under his first account, TomStoner http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=...arget=Tomstoner which was shown in this later edit by Mantanmoreland to be a so far unacknowledged on WP sock of TomStoner (only LastExit is acknowledged by WP to be an official MM sock!) http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=...&oldid=43586904 He started out relatively nice. Blog promotion, which was mainly to promote his forthcoming book. GW's goal is to counter "NSS is bad" proponents (like the SEC Chairman, LOL!!! http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=...ldid=116426524) and there was blog war before ASM, with GW vs "TheSanityCheck", run by a pseudonym "Bob O'Brien" who also tried to edit WP as "Boborbrien". There was a wreath laying ceremony at his tomb back in 2004 during Black History Month. |

Why I believe Gary started his Blogjihad and Wikijihad Against Patrick Byrne in January 2006.
Beyond the obvious "Looking Out For #1" motivation, that Gary had a new book coming out in early 2006, and his blog and WP activity starting in Jan 2006 was #1 done to promote his book, his #2 (and also directly supporting contentions in his book) motivation(s) IMHO were this:
A google search and email tips have revealed the following facts -
1 - Gary and a columnist named Herb Greenberg have a long association together, including a year-2000 co-presentation they made concerning reporting on the stock market. Greenberg was working for "TheStreet.com" at the time, a website owned by Jim Cramer, and a friendly venue for columnist/hedge fund manager David Rocker, for one.
2 - Patrick Byrne has sued David Rocker, during which Jim Cramer and Herb Greenberg were served subpoenas by the SEC. They were not happy about this.
3 - Court documents in Byrne's suit reveal that Greenberg's name has been implicated by witnesses. For what exactly I'm not sure, but it didn't look good. Byrne has publicly called him "crooked" and not been sued by Greenberg, so that tells me something.
4 - IMHO, Gary's unprovoked blog/WP jihad against Byrne (neither had encountered each other prior to that, that I can find proof of) was a favour, for revenge, for his good friends/colleagues Greenberg and to some extent Cramer. More the former I would guess. The latter has moved on with his celebrity.
Byrne and Co. know a lot more about these things obviously, but as an outside googlesleuth, this is what I've come to believe is "Why the hell would Gary be doing this?"
Whether it's more than just journalism, and there's stock scheming that he might be directly or indirectly involved with, that's beyond the catalyst of what I think would take to motivate a person to do all this, and could very well be going on too.
But then I'm naive and tend to look for the relative-best in people's motives, and what can be more easily shown and explained. I wouldn't be suprised if my theory is being way too generous. Read this thread from the start and see just how vile Gary was from the get-go in Jan 2006.
