Wikipedians are struggling with finding a "neutral" / "objective" answer to this one.
I also gave my standard "WP:Canvassing is a stupid policy" speech:

Michael, you have left far too much work for the reader to do. Your link will no longer be relevant in a month when the Talk page is archived. Try to do a better job explaining to us what's going on, and then we'll take the time to bother looking into it.

Here's a permalink of Talk page at the time of this post. The entire talk page as of now is about moving the "People's Republic of China" article to simply "China". China being a nation, and the PRC being one of two states claiming to be representative of the whole nation (the mainland + Taiwan).
I also complained about Quigley's pro-PRC meddling in the past:
http://wikipediareview.com/index.php?showtopic=31488&st=0&p=260567&mode=linear#entry260567
I'm the only one who noticed Quigley's activities:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:2011_Xilinhot_incident
Quigley prefers the official PRC's position to anything else.
Quigley denies having strong feelings for China:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Quigley&diff=prev&oldid=396852685
Yet he also seems very protective of China, or maybe I'm jumping to conclusions again.

Not only did they went forward with the moves, the final decision came from a committee of three sysops. None of those three sysop used the word "consensus".

I've just noticed that pro-Chinese-unity editor Quigley has recently invoked his Right to Vanish. Perhaps he wants new account and a clean slate so no one would recognize him for his pro-PRC stance. He probably went into stealth mode.

Quigley un-vanished himself and is back as "Shrigley". This isn't the first time Shrigley has his account renamed. He was formerly known as "Splittist":

Shrigley was also formerly known as "WilliamWater":

I wonder what caused him to vanish in the first place?

Many of the users were definitely selected because they expressed opposition in one or more community discussions on whether to move pages from "People's Republic of China" to "China". Some of the relevant polls are here. This has been orchestrated by a user who has been following these discussions for a long time; possibly the same user who has been operating under a rotating Hong Kong IP, sabotaging and filibustering every related community discussion and trying to force a 'no consensus' result. If the botmaster is not User:Instantnood, then his behavior is close enough to be indistinguishable from it. Shrigley (talk) 02:04, 14 March 2012 (UTC)
Shrigley believes that there's an covert pro-ROC conspiracy.
Shrigley mentioned Instantnood at least once before:

Are you sure that the image was "Flag_of_Taiwan.svg"? The deletion appears to be perfectly justified, and two other sysops reaffirmed Jiang's decision.

One link away is http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Taiwanese_aborigines&oldid=480353353, another fine example of quality writing:
QUOTE(Wikipedia)
Taiwan's Austronesian speakers were formerly distributed over much of the island's rugged central mountain range and were concentrated in villages along the alluvial plains. As of 2009, their total population is around 499,500 (approximately 2% of Taiwan's population). The bulk of contemporary Taiwanese aborigines live in the mountains and cities.
Ok so these guys originated in the mountains and the plains, and now live in the mountains and the cities. Got it.

So were you User:Bbmshao? That user appears to be a China specialist as apart from that all his edits are to "National Chiao Tung University".

Because "sysops" always know best?
The point was that the gaming on commons affects Wikipedia too, and it's easier for people to influence the names' of such etc there due to there being less activity, less oversight, and a much smaller pool of admins - it's the same thing as on Meta, it's baiscally how Wikipedia was, 7 years ago or something - there's been a lot of discussion about that lately:

Now they want to redefine "Republic of China" to not mainly refer to the ROC. Haven't these people belittled the ROC enough already?

Hey Shrigley, your pro-PRC-ness is showing. He also removed "humans rights" from the introduction of the "Rebiya Kadeer" article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Rebiya_Kadeer&diff=515166433&oldid=507350260
He made the "Rebiya Kadeer" article more negative. He rewrote the article in order to make Rebiya Kadeer appears as if she and her family were evil criminals. Shrigley is punishing "Rebiya Kadeer" for being an anti-PRC separatist (for being against the "integrity" of Shrigley's "motherland").

Michael, are you surprised? Just look at Google helping to push the Chinese government agenda. China has a lot of money and a lot of influence. No matter how much the internet groups pretend to be for liberal causes and helping people, they tend to be the first to bow down to totalitarian governments when they get some kind of benefit.

It is clear that "China" as a country means the Communist one; it is recognised as such by everyone except the Government on Taiwan. The fact that the Communists are rather nasty people is irrelevant. (Taiwan is not quite Utopia either.) It is obviously to violate WP:UNDUE to give the claims of Taiwan anything like as much prominence as those of the Communists.

Where's bloody Kublai Khan when we need him? He knew how to deal with the Chinese!
