_ Bureaucracy _ The 6th annual "WP:DICK of Distinction" Awards Pageant

Posted by: Herschelkrustofsky

DO NOT VOTE until you read the following blurbs.

Image

Here we are once again, ladies and gentlemen of the Academy.

To recap, the WP:DICK of Distinction Award goes to Wikipedia admins who glory in the abuse of their power, make corrupt deals and brazenly game the system, either to push POV, or simply because they can. For this coveted award, each voter may cast essentially three votes, by voting for both the main WP:DICK, and also a runner-up (ew.) You have the option of splitting your votes, 2 to the former and 1 for the latter, or granting all three to your favorite contestant by selecting him or her in both categories. The winner will be that WP:DICK who gets the highest total in both categories.

The Tag-Team award goes to those who have formed various and sundry cabals, the better to push POV with.

The Miss Incongeniality award goes to the contestant with the most egregious violations of WP:CIVIL.

The Vexatious Litigant award honors the contestant who most routinely and effectively abuses the conflict resolution apparatus in order to pursue an agenda.

The Straight Shooter award goes to the least corrupt and most conscientious admin.

The Cojones de latón award recognizes the rank and file Wikipedian who displays the most valor in confronting the forces of corruption at Wikipedia.

And finally, the TL;DR Award goes to the contestant who most devastatingly bores the shit out of us in the course of making long-winded arguments over obscure points.

All right, dear colleagues, prepare to vote. Let's have a good clean fight.

I really think that giving Ottava the TL;DR award would send the wrong message; it implies that his comments would be more tolerable if only they were shorter!

Surely that prize should go to Newyorkbrad for penning the "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Manipulation_of_BLPs" ArbCom decision.

If Ottava wins anything, it should be Miss Incongeniality. This has been the banner year for his prolonged campaign of nastiness. In the past, it got him banned from Wikipedia and desysopped on Wikiversity. This year alone, it got him indef-blocked on Wikiversity, indef-blocked on Commons, and restricted here on WR. I hate to enable him, but goddamnit this kid is playing in a whole other league.

Dang, that's a good point. That decision was especially memorable because of the extremely low content to length ratio. It was comparable to the Dodd-Frank Bill which did so much to resolve the financial crisis.

I wonder, if there's a reason why not to make these votes in an open? I mean as soon as somebody voted a post is added automatically who he voter for. It would have been interesting.

1) That's not how the Board software works; and
c) Secret voting is the bedrock of democratic society -- it allows us to say one thing and do another!

I think the tag-teamers are tag-teaming the tag teaming vote... ermm.gif

Posted by: Herschelkrustofsky

And after the first day of voting, Fæ has emerged with 46 points, a convincing lead, in the main event. The question is, can Fæ sustain this standing as front-runner DICK for the entire length of the election?

Meanwhile, Will Beback is drooping in the runner-up DICK position, with 25 points. However, Will is going for the trifecta, with a strong showing in the Vexatious Litigant race where he presently leads with 15 votes, and Will's tag-team is presently tied with the Ultra-Zionists in the hotly contested tag-team event.

From the early returns, it looks like WebHamster is the rodent to beat in the Miss Incongeniality contest. In the Straight Shooter event, perennial favorites Alison and Scott MacDonald are neck and neck with 8 votes each. Peter Damian has an early lead in the Cojones polling, while in the TL:DR race, the leading yawner is Newyorkbrad with 17.

Newyorkbrad really made history with that decision. The arbcom had a golden opportunity to finally address the long-festering problem of BLP abuse, and Brad, speaking for the arbcom, produced a masterpiece of inconsequential, masturbatory evasive verbiage. Reading that decision was like eating five pounds of Miracle Whip.

Why hello there, Mila. You seem to unblock me at convenient times.

BTW I did vote for you, but on reconsideration I'd probably change it to the ARSehole crew. Most of you are either banned or irrelevant, while they are actively and currently fucking up the project with every My Little Pony or Youtube sensation that gets an article kept.

And now with two days of voting, Fæ looks unstoppable with 52 points in the DICK division, trailed by Will Beback with 33 and Sandstein panting behind them at 21. Will is faring better in the Vexatious Litigant event, which he dominates with 17 votes to Ottava's 14, and in the fiercely contested Tag-Team competition, Will and his Retinue are in a dead heat with the Ultra-Zionists at 8 votes each. In that latter event, we cannot discount the possibility of a surge by either the Palestine Warriors or the Article Rescue Squadron, currently at 6 votes each, and the Climate Changers with 5 votes have also been very consistent competitors over the years. For Miss Incongeniality, the competition comes down to three leading contenders: WebHamster, presently ahead with 10, versus Baseball Bugs and perennial favorite Ottava at 9 each. Alison and Scott MacDonald are neck and neck for Straight Shooter, each having racked up 10 votes, and Peter Damian continues to dominate the Cojones competition with 11. Finally, Ottava is giving Newyorkbrad a run for his money in the TL;DR event, at 18 and 20 votes respectively.

So that would be a [[Dick Trickle]]. Voting slowing down can be identified when it appears to be taking a smoke break. Illustrated here for clarity:

Now we have three days worth of voting to assess. Fæ appears to be a veritable juggernaut in the DICK category, with 58 votes to Will Beback's 45. But as the saying goes, it ain't over until the slim virgin sings (did I use that joke last year?) Meanwhile, in the Tag Team event, Will's team has surged ahead, tallying 14 votes with the Ultra-Zionists losing ground at 8. I sort of wish I had bent the rules and allowed a late inclusion of Hipocrite in Will's ensemble, since he is clearly a stalwart in Will's retinue. Well, maybe next year he'll get the recognition he craves. Then, on to the Miss Incongeniality match, where WebHamster manages to stay one step ahead of Ottava, 13 to 12 -- but watch out for Baseball Bugs at 11. For Vexatious Litigant, Ottava trails Will Beback 19 to 21. Alison has gained some ground in the Straight Shooter contest, with 15 votes to Scott MacDonald's 10. In the Cojones race, Peter Damian is still the man to beat, and in the TL;DR competition, Newyorkbrad maintains a slim lead over Ottava.

You mean "slime" lead......

Isn't it amazing, how many people are showing up to vote here (454 at the moment).
WR never gets that much individual traffic in a normal week. 90% of the posts are by the same 25-or-so users.

If Wikipedia thinks WR is such a horrible, evil forum, they why do they watch it like hawks? AND vote
on WR things like this? How many Wikipedia nerds are just as disgusted with the place as we are,
yet are terrified that if they participate in WR discussions, they'll be harassed on Wikipedia?

Why? They both rely on figments of imagination to maintain their role in life.

Posted by: Herschelkrustofsky

After four days of voting, the rate of new votes being cast has slowed significantly. In the main event, Will Beback has succeeded in narrowing the gap somewhat, with 50 points to Fæ's 60 -- but can he close it before all the votes are cast? Can his thrust to become the supreme WP:DICK spurt at the last minute, or will he lose his election?

In other events, it looks like Will's Retinue has the edge in the Tag-Team match, with the Article Rescue Squadron, the FAC Cabal, and the Ultra-Zionists all tied for second place. For Miss Incongeniality, it is still WebHamster by a nose. For Vexatious Litigant, Ottava is straining to catch Will Beback but Will still looks safe to win that one. Alison has a comfortable lead for Straight Shooter, as does Peter Damian in the Cojones contest.

The real cliff-hanger race ought to be the TL;DR event, which has been a neck-and-neck battle between Ottava and Newyorkbrad, where NYB has just pulled into the lead with 24 votes. Somehow, because of the nature of the competition, it doesn't seem all that exciting.

My guess is that voting will close early next week, depending on the volume of votes cast this weekend. To paraphrase General Douglas MacArthur in his message to the Philippines, rise and vote!

Posted by: Herschelkrustofsky

There hasn't been a dramatic change in the standings of our contestants over the past 24 hours, so rather than deliver a blow-by-blow account, I'd like to say a few words about sportsmanship. I think it tells you something important about Life when you see Fæ and Will Beback, while locked in a competition for this pageant's most prestigious award, nonetheless acting as comrades-in-arms out there on the great battlefield of Wikipedia. I refer, of course, to Will's http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Requests_for_comment/F%C3%A6#Undeleted the RfC on Fæ. After all, what is really more important: personal recognition at an awards pageant, or keeping Wikipedia forever free as a platform for the dissemination of defamation and porn?

Posted by: EricBarbour

Not just porn, don't forget the gay porn. Very important.

I wonder if this book should have a "Mafias" chapter. Gay mafia, anti-LaRouche mafia, anti-Scientology mafia, Jewish mafia (and Palestinian mafia now), objectivism mafia, etc. etc.

Posted by: Herschelkrustofsky

It may seem like a minor point, but I think it is important not to conflate Judaism with Zionism. I don't believe that Wikipedia has a Jewish mafia.

Posted by: EricBarbour

A Jewish mafia wouldn't work because we couldn't all email each other. I once took a picture of an amusing chess set I saw in the window of a religious shop in Golders Green and emailed it to various Jewish Wikipedians I had contacted in the past. I carelessly used the cc option and not the bcc one and got told off by more than one person because it meant that the Zionists could see the non-Zionists' email addresses and visa-versa.

The voting has slowed to a trickle, with no significant change in the respective standings of the contestants. So, let it be known that voting will close on Wednesday.

Posted by: Herschelkrustofsky

In the final days of voting, there are some contests which are still up for grabs. Our own Ottava is now making a bid for supremacy in two categories: the always exciting TL;DR event, where he has pulled into the lead with 27 votes to Newyorkbrad's 26; and Vexatious Litigant match, where he is breathing down Will Beback's neck with 23 votes to Will's 24. There's nothing like a home court advantage! And a recent acquisition to the WR stable, WebHamster, still leads the Miss Incongeniality race, although no one should count out Baseball Bugs or last year's winner, Ottava. Those last straggling members of the Academy who have not yet voted will make all the difference in these three contests.

Posted by: Herschelkrustofsky

Ottava has definitely launched his final assault, and is now tied with Will Beback for Vexatious Litigant, in addition to maintaining his slim lead in the TL:DR event. Today is the last day for voting, and one or two members of the Academy will decide these two exciting contests.

Posted by: EricBarbour

Looks closed to me. Time to do a couple of spreadsheets.

Posted by: Herschelkrustofsky

I'm keeping it open for a few more hours in case someone comes along to break the tie for Vexatious Litigant.

Posted by: Herschelkrustofsky

And... time's up. Stay tuned this weekend for the gala awards presentation!
