I thought of applying for arbcom with this but I would blow it in a few seconds, and the looking at all those forms and templates to fill in put me off straight away. Email with some ideas about how you would use it and I will give it to the most imaginative application. Discretion assured.

I will be making a lot more of these over the next year.

Perhaps I'm just an inside the box kind of thinker, but I don't think there are really many creative things you can do with an account like that. I mean, you can upload files, and move pages, and edit semi-protected articles, but if that's all you wanted to do you could have stopped well short of a thousand.

Run for Arbcom, which requires 1,000 mainspace edits before Novermber 10.

It's probably too late this year, but next year I will prepare another such account, as well as some supporters, say 100 or so, then give them all away on the understanding they will vote for the eligible one. This year is just an experiment.

If they change the rules, so much the better as it can only improve this dreadfully corrupt system. If not, we have a WR-sponsored member of Arbcom.

This raises all kinds of questions. What kinds of edits are you making under these sock accounts? Are you just fixing typos and reverting vandalism all day? Bear in mind that if you create 100 socks, each one needs to have 150 mainspace edits to vote, so you'll need to make 15,000 edits, and then another 1000 for your ArbCom candidate. So that's 16,000 edits in an elaborate attempt to fiddle with the results of an election.

It would be an entertaining project. 15,000 edits in a year is certainly achievable, but if more people could help, it would be easy. Contact me by email.

What we need to find is the right vaccine that stops Peter Damien from editing Wikipedia compulsively despite knowing that editing Wikipedia is a complete waste of precious lifespan.

What? Editing is displacement for something worse? Or you need to find something to displace it?

Consider LEGO modeling, it's very theraputic.

I've been trying to convince Peter that Wikipedia Review is a step above Wikipedia, and I made $10.42 on the Consumer economy article advert there, just since last week, but... he is not motivated by mere dollars.

Displacement activity displaces stuff you have to do in the line of duty.

Can you really make money, say, out of a series of articles on English abbeys with links to hotels, restaurants?

Speaking of which, MWB seems to be down right now, so high-tail it back over thar and find a fixer so I can get some real work done today.

Yes, you can. How much? I can't say. It would depend on how much time and effort you put into it. If you applied 25% of the time you spend on Wikipedia, I'd venture a guess that you could be making $10 a month. But, if you made it a "go to" destination for travel-minded tourists interested in abbeys, I'll bet you could get some sweet "exclusive" banner ad deals with some hotels, to the tune of $25 per registered guest you send them.

One thing I can absolutely promise -- you'd make more money on Wikipedia Review than you would on Wikipedia (unless you go into the paid editing business, and that's a bit of a different matter).

P.S. Jon, it would seem that MWB is up again, after 75 minutes of down time.
