Rorschach Wikipedia Debate, When Will Wales Finally Step In?

QUOTE
...This is not the first time Wikipedia has been under the microscope with regard to entries, nor will it be the last. From my personal experience, and in conversations with my friend Jimmy Wales, the founder of Wikipedia, that organization can be about as hard to crack as Fort Knox as far as entries are concerned. My last discourse with Wales over entries there dealt with what one would think was a simple matter of “inappropriate content”, namely pornographic entries and links to Wikipedia.

Knowing Wales well these last few years, I fully expected something would be done about entries which clearly represented potentially damaging content for young children especially, but things were not that simple...

An interesting dialogue developing here. I encourage our more thoughtful members of WR to come join in.

Surprisingly, we don't have the WWJD answer to the Rorschach conundrum yet.

Because Jesus Wales doesn't care.

Someone with pull at the WMF needs to make him care.

Somey comments

QUOTE
If there’s one thing I hope people take from this sort of issue, it’s that there really is a “Wikipedia perspective” on almost any controversial subject. As you’ve recognized, that perspective is extremely insular and values “civility” – which translates to “avoidance of all negative reactions to, or personal criticism of, established Wikipedians” – above almost anything else, including morality, accuracy, and fairness. Meanwhile, Jimbo & Co. realized a long time ago that drama and controversy are just another recruitment strategy. Jimbo in particular won’t step in to try and quell it unless his personal interests are threatened.

Very good, Somey.

Its gone international now ...
The Guardian Testing times for Wikipedia after doctor posts secrets of the Rorschach inkblots
QUOTE
The row erupted when hospital doctor James Heilman from Saskatchewan posted all ten inkblot plates on Wikipedia alongside the most common responses given to each.

Heilman uploaded the images after becoming frustrated by a debate on the website as to whether a single Rorschach inkblot plate should be taken down. "I just wanted to raise the bar," he said.

The move brought immediate condemnation from psychologists who signed on to complain that making the tests public renders them useless.

"Making images available on the internet will make it obsolete and we will have lost a helpful tool," said one.

Psychologists familiar with the Rorschach test say it is most valuable when patients describe the first thing that comes into their head on seeing the inkblots. Publishing the images and common reactions on the internet means patients are more likely to be familiar with the test and give considered, less helpful answers.

Roughly translated as, "I am a twat, and I just wanted to fuck everyone over ... and the Wikipedia is a great place to do it because any idiot can edit and parade their shit in front of the world at the top of Google".

Dr. Heilman said during a lull in his shift at Moose Jaw Union Hospital ... "They don't want their profession exposed. They want to stay as a secret society."

Its not clear to me whether he was talking about psychiatrists or Wikipedians.
