Why Angry Birds is so successful and popular: a cognitive teardown of the user experience
QUOTE
More compelling is the fact that not only do huge numbers download this game, they play it with such focus that the total number of hours consumed by Angry Birds players world-wide is roughly 200 million minutes a DAY, which translates into 1.2 billion hours a year. To compare, all person-hours spent creating and updating Wikipedia totals about 100 million hours over the entire life span of Wikipedia (Neiman Journalism Lab).

So, Angry Birds is a "better encyclopedia" than WP? tongue.gif

QUOTE
Again, really smart response time management gives the user time to relax and think about how lame they are compared to their 4 year old who is already at the 26th level.

Does this imply that Wikipedia needs to make itself attractive to 4-year-olds in order to be as "good" as Angry Birds?

To summarize, Angry Birds is popular because it's stupid, and it manipulates the stupid user into thinking it's a smarter game than it really is. And it has lots of "mystery". blink.gif

Wikipedia isn't stupid enough to attract the massive popularity that equals "quality" in this diseased age of ours. Although it does have plenty of "mystery". Mostly relating to why its administrators love to play dirty political tricks and block people for stupid reasons, perhaps.

I don't know which is dumber, Angry Birds or this guy's blog.

Admittedly the game doesn't appeal to me, but I thought that he made some pretty good points about UI design.

Angry Birds does at least have some physics involved, and there's a bit of memory skill, trying to remember if you need your parabolic trajectory on the next shot to be a bit flatter or steeper.

I like Angry Birds for a few minutes at a spell.

There, I said it.
