_ The Wikipedia Annex _ Today I will get community banned

Today I will get community banned, getting attacked by a lynch mob without any ability to say anything in my defense.

But here's an interesting comment by Will Beback

*'''Comment''' If folks can be sanctioned for what they do on other websites then there are a bunch of WR contributors who'll have a lot to answer for. I think that might be a good idea, but I just want to make sure that folks know the proposed action here would set a precedent

The situation reminded to me http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_they_came%E2%80%A6 this thing

First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.

Good luck to the ones who's left, and who's never spoken out!

Will is just making his standard calculation about how a new precedent may be deployed in the various WP:BATTLEFIELD actions he is engaged in.

I feel so much sympathy that it's literally oozing out in the form of sarcasm.

Good thing you couldn't say anything in your defense because it probably wouldn't be worth the time spent reading it.

I actually meant that I am sure there are users who are against the witch hunt, against the lynching mob, but they have chosen not to speak up. It is a little bit sad, but kind of expected. I only wonder who's going to be the next victim?
In any case I am proud of what I did, and no matter what is to happen I am not sorry of anything.

Posted by: Selina

The sad thing is if you put your statements in a different tone with less editorializing and commentary, you might actually be able to put whatever points you have across - but because your tone comes off so aggressive people discount what you say without wanting to read through it all, you set off the "crackpot" button in peoples' heads:
http://wikipediareview.com/?showtopic=35651&st=80&p=297402&#entry297402
— If you want to have a chance, go back and edit what you said, remove the excessive repeated hysterical-sounding "Gwen Gale"s and replace it with a calm commentary on events with as little padding and headers as possible, in something people can easily read -say sorry for letting your emotions get the better of you, and calmly restate what the problems were, in a more compact and concise form

I don't think it's your fault, it's just your style and these things tend to have to be learned the hard way - I hope they take that you are obviously believe you are acting with good intentions from everything you say and not intending to be disruptive into account, it's just that you saw some things you consider wrong and want to right them, I understand, I got carried away sometimes when I was younger too - but the sad thing is it doesn't matter how right you are if you can't conform a bit :/

Beback's WR hatred is as delusional and self-serving as your zeal for Gwen Gale is. He will gain no traction from your train wreck of a Meta crusade.

Speaking of Meta, I did not forsee any of this crashing down on their heads, this is truly fascinating popcorn-eating theatre going on the past few days.

I wonder if this zeal could be bent towards wikitionary next, where they have no equivalent of BLP policy. Those yahoos think that http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/santorum#Noun posts is acceptable for something to do with a living person.

I just dipped into the discussion. In both madhouses. My above comment applies to all of them. As far as I can make out Meta is the core of english wikipedia -- cruder, ruder, with a bunch of the layers stripped away, but the same fundamental thing.

So, Mila, your crusade has already caused a bit of collateral damage, first http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Steward_requests/Global#Global_lock_for_WizardOfOz, then your buddy http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Malcolm_Schosha.

There will be fallout from this for a long, long time, as admins, Arbs, Stewards, and regular folk rage and revert each other.

Was it worth it?

Of course it was worth it, if for nothing else then at least http://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log&page=User%3ABeeblebrox&type=block for this tongue.gif

Ok it was a joke, but yes it was worth it. Only you will not understand why because you are missing any decency. I knew russavia will vote for the ban, I knew Beeblebrox will vote for the ban, I was not surprised a few other wikipidiots did, but I was surprised by your vote. A few days ago I once again believed that there's something human about you, and once again I was mistaking.

And about the ban. Well, a community that is banning a person who BTW acted within a policy of a sister project without allowing this person at least to have a final word is sick. Although I have never made such votes myself, I am still ashamed I used to be a part of that community of bullies and others who simply keep silent.

If that community that is run by bullies, cowards and idiots will go on like that, they will soon start banning people who have never edited wikipedia at all, but dared to critique one of wikipedia's own in other places. smile.gif

I think you live in a reality that can never be penetrated by facts, reason, logic, or common sense. You have seen near-universal condemnation for all of your antics, your only true supporter is a little halfwit like Kwork/Schosha...the meta support is more a defensive reflex from their feudal estate is being invaded.

Y'know if you keep this up they'll probably shitcan you from Commons as well, which'd be regrettable as it is the one place in this project where your contribution is actually valued.

It's a hard damn lesson to learn that no matter how right you are if you let yourself get distracted by anger, all the reason you give couldn't matter less - it doesn't matter what you think, but what other people think, and a lot of people react to the first things they see as influencing them the most and perhaps even not bothering to investigate further if the first impression is bad wink.gif I feel kinda sorry for her cos she can't even help herself, I am figuring maybe a few years and she might well be ok though. You feel sorry for me? Please don't. Honestly, I am absolutely fine. Ever since I asked to be blocked in July, 2011, I have never wanted to go back. Probably i was ready to leave. Hate? No, I do not hate gwen gale at all.I pity her. Autism? Never suffered from one. "a few years", and I might be ok? I assure you I have been ok ever since I left wikipedia. Cheers.

Selina, I was executed by a very dirty and a very cowardly, and mostly anonymous lynch mob without even giving an opportunity to say anything in my defense. No user, but vandals, pedophiles, racists, etc should be ever treated like that.
But the lynch mob is not done with me yet. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard&oldid=476996033#Is_it_possible_to_ban_a_user_from_meta.3F
Selina, if you believe I would even consider getting close to that place ever again, you are daydreaming.

I am proud of submitting RFC. I stood up against bullying, and became a victim of bullying myself.

All I did was providing the differences to explain why less than 2 months ago admin Guerillero had this to say: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia%3ARequests_for_adminship%2FBusterD&action=historysubmit&diff=467417317&oldid=467417178

and if you and others did not like the language I used (I agree there are problems with this), you should have realized my English is very limited. Another peculiar detail is that night ranger voted to support the ban, and was the one, who closed the discussion, but nobody cares.

You are right, there was no any differences. I was banned for alleged harassment, but neither members of govcom nor the users who supported the ban read my RFC, and https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Requests_for_comment/Gwen_Gale&oldid=3459356#An_open_letter_to_arbcom, but I did get an interesting feedback from WMF employee . He looked at tens of idiotic blocks Gwen imposed, and found a single one to complain about.http://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Requests_for_comment/Gwen_Gale&oldid=3420797#Comments_by_Philippe_.28WMF.29

Comments by Philippe (WMF)

Really? w:User:Nextbook is the example you want to use? I agree with that block, 100%. Philippe (WMF) 04:20, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for the comment, Philippe (WMF).
Yes, I would like to use this example and here's why:
1. A new editor made a few contributions.
2. He is warned he has to use sources.
3. So in his next two edits he tries to use sources. In this edit he provides not just one, but three sources almost for every sentence he adds, but he does it like this "(Marks, "Lost Paradise", page 292.) " because he is not sure what is the right way to list references. In his next and the last edit he inserts the external link to the article in Guardian, which of course is a reliable source.
4. The user is blocked and never returns.
So, IMO Gwen Gale at least failed to assume a good faith towards new user. Also she was edit warring with him before the block. Maybe there was not enough involvement, but this was a wrong block of a new user, who should have been helped not blocked. May I please ask you to clarify why you said you'd supported the block? Thanks.--Mbz1 04:50, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
BTW I did find the book the user referred to. It is a reliable source that was published by Free Press.--Mbz1 04:57, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
Do you still "agree with that block, 100%"?--Mbz1 16:53, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

(there was no response although I asked him the same question at his talk too. )

Nobody else commented on the content, nobody pointed out a harassment, but I was banned.

There were a few honest and absolutely uninvolved admins and users from Meta and other projects that stated there was no harassment

Well, community ban and blocks are different. I was not going to go to wikipedia ever again. I am happy I left. I did not care, if it was a self-requested block or a block by arbcom, but community ban hurt me, not because now I could never return (I was not going to return anyway), but it makes me sad to be banned like that. It was not only unneeded and unfair. It was also very cruel.

I did not care, if it was a self-requested block or a block by arbcom, but community ban hurt me, not because now I could never return (I was not going to return anyway), but it makes me sad to be banned like that. It was not only unneeded and unfair. It was also very cruel.

but yes Wikipedians are high level internet trolls and they do know how to push those buttons, take a nice person and make them feel and behave like an obsessed loser.

You just have to accept that there is nothing you can say that will make you win. No perfect argument. No brilliant explanation. Nothing. You are banned, therefore you are less than. An imperfect person, not quite a human being anymore.

Sorry about that.

If I were offered right now to change my place in Wikipedia with any one who voted to support the ban or with any of the members of govcom, I would have refused.
I'd better be the one who's getting lynched than a part of a lynch mob.

This sort of thing amuses me. I have no idea about the merits of mbz1's case against the administrator, or the case against mbz1 for bringing the case, although I have my suspicions. But is it really possible for anybody in his right mind to get all broken up about being kicked out of the Wikipedia insane asylum? I mean, they're so ridiculously self-important, when they aren't acting like trolls, and show no sense of grace, humanity, or even style. Admins and even rank-and-file contributors go around making high-sounding declarations and announcements, as if they were government officials dispensing court orders. And then, if you really want to keep working on the wiki, nothing is stopping you from making a new account and getting back to work, instantly, as everybody knows. It's ridiculous. In fact, the complexity of the ridiculousness is mind-boggling, and would take a very complicated essay to tease out. Evidently mbz1 isn't actually upset about being blocked, and is taking a sensible attitude. I was blocked, and voted to be blocked myself, but they voted to unblock me anyway. Go figure!

It's a live action Star Trek roleplaying game.
It's been going on for years now and the CalvinBall rules have morphed with the time passing.

Nobody who has power in this system wants to take a chance of having to reacquire hard won skills and position if the rules were suddenly to change, even to a more sane revision.

The inherent inertia of the wikipedia "elite" is what will prevent anything short of a coup by the foundation.

I wonder if Sue Gardner even remotely realizes how damaged her career is by association with wikipedia. Can you imagine anyone ever hiring her in the future with this on her resume? She has acquired her own golden handcuffs.

Until there is some form of formal identification required by the editor and, especially, the admin/functionary base, this nonsense will prevail unabated.

Given the negative attention that would inevitably result to some of the worst, yet highest placed, people, this is a non starter with the current governance structure.

Well put. I would advise anyone who's been contributing to Wikipedia for six months or so (just long enough to feel like you're making a difference) to make some kind of move and see just how much the community is in your corner. File an RfA, try and contribute to a highly-watched article, add some controversial material, jump into the BLP page, try and help on the IP pages, start a discussion about clarifying or changing a policy, etc.

You can sit back and fight vandals all day and never get anything really accomplished. Jump in and see exactly how much your contributions are appreciated, and how much a part of the community you feel like once they finish putting you through the full-on anal probe that is finding Wikipedia consensus.

I'd bet that's when that curve of Wikipedians starts to fall off. It's very easy to lose an argument on the internet with people who live there, and already have their support system in place to keep things exactly the way they are.

Not entirely, but she is beginning http://wikipediareview.com/index.php?showtopic=35594.

Wikipedia insane asylum

by English wikipedia admin, and oversighter Beeblebrox (T-C-L-K-R-D) .

Besides everything else Beeblebrox even does not know how to read. Once I quoted an article from WS Journal and got this post http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk%3AMbz1&action=historysubmit&diff=411453403&oldid=411447420

Holy shit, did you really just say that?!?! Go away. I can't think of anything else to say in the face of such blatant racism, go away and don't come back. [[User:Beeblebrox|Beeblebrox]] ([[User talk:Beeblebrox|talk]]) 21:44, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
It took Beeblebrox a few hours to understand what it was reading, and strike out its stupidity.
It is scary to think who gets the tools in "Wikipedia insane asylum".

The word it could not understand was "the debasement".Back then I emailed to the author of the article in WS Journal, and told him about wikipedia admin Beeblebrox. He emailed me back and told me he has known for a long time that there is "the debasement of Wikipedia mind" . He advised me stop contributing to wikipedia. I wish I listened.
