_ The Jimbo Phenomenon _ Jimmy Wales lives in...

Therefore, we have helped to keep free information open and free, posting Jimbo's self-disclosed location http://www.wikipediareview.com/File:Jimbo_in_Golden_Acres.jpg for posterity.

Jimbo's Twitter account posted from http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Golden+Acres,+Dunedin,+FL&sll=41.073277,-111.971053&sspn=0.032223,0.077162&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Golden+Acres,+Dunedin,+Florida&ll=28.021151,-82.776146&spn=0.037733,0.077162&z=14&layer=c&cbll=28.021025,-82.77616&panoid=xNRTwO7yNZ3nUuRjL_u7yA&cbp=12,0,,0,5.

Apart from the somewhat unsightly water tower, that's a rather nice trailer park, even by Florida's http://www.flhsmv.gov/dmv/Forms/BMHRV/15C1Finl.pdf for trailer parks! You're living the life, Jimbo, aren't you? We're glad you've landed on your feet after Christine kicked you out of the old house. I wonder if you're on a http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Jimbo_Wales&diff=357634924&oldid=357634748?

By the way, just to test how accurate is this Twitter geo-location feature, I gave it a try, and it properly pegged me to my http://eastbradford.org/publicinfo/Maps/ZoningMap.pdf, despite living quite close to its southern boundary.

um, since this is a Wikipedia Criticism site...and Jimbo has something to do with Wikipedia...I would think that this is pretty much on topic....and living in a trailer park kinda goes against the "rock star" lifestyle that the media likes to grant to Mr. Wales.

How about you do an actual count of all the topics I've started here at WR, then you count all that are Jimmy Wales-related, and then we'll assess whether or not I need a "WR intervention" or a "Jimmy Wales-related on WR intervention"?

I'm pretty sure there are parts of Dunedin which aren't in a trailer park. (Residential parts, that is - I know there's the stadium there where the Blue Jays play their spring training.)

I'm also pretty sure there are rock stars that have a trailer park as their "sole residence". After all, if you're a rock star, you're pretty much a transient anyway.

Nevermind. Misread your post.

Damn right. "Slumming", outside of urban areas, generally involves trailer parks. Many trailer parks offer broadband wifi these days.

No, no, that's for the fine Canadian tail. The trailer sort, just shoot you. We'll have to watch COPS, or American Justice. However, I believe it's the case that women who shoot people don't get their own BLPs if they're in any way related to WMF. ermm.gif

Well, surely he also wants to maintain some sort of connection to "the little people". Wouldn't surprise me one bit if he parked his mom in a trailer to get some "street cred".

After all, I can't imagine his mom was all too thrilled with the porn search thing, and we all know how well he treats people who disagree with him.

Meanwhile ... over at http://hunch.com/people/jimmywales/ where Jimmy of Dunedin, FL is a board director, he is worth 27,065 banjos for his 22 contributions (certainly more banjos than Greg too). He tells us that he "Supports curiosity and innovation in the child" ... which probably explains why he is so keen to have his educational Encyclopedia to be filled full of amateur porn and pederastry.

Actually, this topic was very old news ... good article. It looks like it was the family bungalow before the split. Not a trailer.

QUOTE
http://reason.com/archives/2007/05/30/wikipedia-and-beyond (abridged)

Katherine Mangu-Ward from the June 2007 issue

Jimmy Wales, the founder of Wikipedia, lives in a house fit for a grandmother. The progenitor and public face of one of the 10 most popular websites in the world beds down in a one-story bungalow on a cul-de-sac near St. Petersburg, Florida. The neighborhood, with its scrubby vegetation and plastic lawn furniture, screams "Bingo Night." Inside the house, the décor is minimal, and the stucco and cool tile floors make the place echo. A few potted plants bravely attempt domesticity. Out front sits a cherry red Hyundai.

I arrive at Wales' house on a gray, humid day in December. It's 11 a.m., and after wrapping up some emails on his white Mac iBook, Wales proposes lunch. We hit the mean streets of Gulf Coast Florida in the Hyundai, in search of "this really great Indian place that's part of a motel," and wind up cruising for hours-stopping at Starbucks, hitting the mall, and generally duplicating the average day of millions of suburban teenagers.

Despite his modest digs, Wales is an Internet rock star .. Asked about the secret to Wikipedia's success, Wales says simply, "We make the Internet not suck." ...

Wales characterizes the dispute with Sanger as a fight over the "project's radically open nature" and the question of "whether there was a role for an editor in chief" in the new project. Sanger says he wanted to implement the "common-sense" rules that "experts and specialists should be given some particular respect when writing in their areas of expertise." ...

They also differed over whether advertising should be permitted on the site. Not only does Wikipedia allow anyone to write or edit any article, but the site contains no ads.

Wikipedia's other major scandal hasn't been quite as easy for Wales to laugh off, because he was the culprit. In 2005 he was caught with his hand on the edit button, taking advantage of Wikipedia's open editing policy to remove Larry Sanger from the encyclopedia's official history of itself.

Wikipedia's decision not to censor its content selectively in order to meet the demands of the Chinese government was easy, since it would be almost impossible to do anyway.

Daughter Kira stands in front of a board, wearing a dirndl and reciting facts about Germany. Asked where she did her research, she cops to using Wikipedia for part of the project.

Wales smiles sheepishly; the Wikipedia revolution has penetrated even his own small bungalow.

They sold that http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/3911-Harrisburg-St-NE-Saint-Petersburg-FL-33703/46978829_zpid/. There is no earthly reason why Jimbo would be tweeting recently from that location, and then having Twitter mark it as Golden Acres, some 23 miles away from the old homestead.

You're decidedly wrong about this, Cock-up.

My apologies, I stand corrected.

I'd download Google Earth and start scouring the neighborhood for a Red Hyundai ... or did that go to the wife as well?

Good article above though, I thought.

Agreed.

While he agrees these records should be available to the public, Wales said in the past such information was available to people who went to a courthouse to actively seek it, but "it's a different animal" when it's up on the Internet.

I would say this is simply the paper trail from when Jimmy and Christine sold their house at 3911 Harrisburg Street (post separation, presumably) to Abdul Karipodi and Jazbeen Mahmood. Then the mortgage was cleared through the bank and (probably) another bank that was doing the servicing.

http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/3911-Harrisburg-St-NE-Saint-Petersburg-FL-33703/46978829_zpid/ Zillow.com, Jimbo purchased the home in June 2002 for $180,000, then after five years in the home listed it for sale for $264,000 on Veterans Day 2007. After 5 weeks on the market, Jimbo and Christine settled for an offer of $230,000 by Abdul and Jazbeen. Jimbo then had his affair with Rachel in February of 2008.

There is no earthly reason why Jimbo would be tweeting recently from that location, and then having Twitter mark it as Golden Acres, some 23 miles away from the old homestead.
When Jimbo sold the old house he bought another one, but that house was vested into a trust so that they could conceal his address from public records.

It's fairly clear that Jimmy's attitude on public records is that they're great for everyone else but he, personally, needs to be kept out of them. It's fairly obvious that Jimmy ascribes to the Heinleinian notion that rules and laws are for ordinary people only, and that extraordinary people like himself should not be required to follow them. I find his comments on the sex offender registry especially curious; I've never heard even the slightest rumor to suggest that any of the many women he's had affairs with over the years were anything but of legal age.

Heinleinian Coventry! A trip to an isolated place where everybody is just like him. Before that, we're stuck with eye-for-an-eye.

And no, eye-for-eye doesn't make the whole world blind. Just the sons-of-bitches.

I rarely enjoy Mr McBride's jabs at Greg.

I didn't know that MZMcBride made regular jabs. I was under the impression that MZM made some sort of ballsy defense of Thekohser on Wikipedia, which led to something or another. Details hazy in my mind.

Anyhow, I would stop (just) short of calling it "creepy," but this obsession is certainly Thekohser's least attractive feature on Wikipedia Review.

Kato was similarly obsessed, but gradually toned it down. In the end, I rather doubt all this needling will enhance or damage either of their statures, or the stature of W-R.

Greg is at his best when he's being creative. Some of his more creative exercises were quite delightful.

And in this there is the justification for having a closer look.

Well, if I'm "creepy", you're "creepy minus 1" for being nearly obsessed with pointing out how often I point out how silly Jimmy Wales is.

You want me to switch to another subject or something, like the Detroit Lions, or maybe online gambling?

Here's something I am honestly curious about -- out of my last X threads started, what percentage have their topical focus on Jimbo alone? Since you're nearly obsessed with it, could you do the math for me, One?

That's right.

When you boil it all down, Mr. Wales is an arrogant little toad, with an unusual talent for manipulating people.
And a consummate liar (though not especially talented in the lying area).
50 years ago a guy like him might have been a door-to-door salesman, or perhaps a pawnshop owner.
Wikipedia is nothing more than a gigantic online pawnshop. With warfare.

Much as there is a side of me that enjoys a fool having his foolishness pointed out, I'm afraid that Greg does overdo it. I don't think Jimbo is at all trustworthy or able, but Greg's continuous digs lack the killer blow, Jimbo's money indiscretions are small beer in the grand scheme of things. Greg's tireless research though, where he picks out the sheer empty-headedness of Our Leader, is worthwhile.

I think the tactics are wrong, and the scatter-gun approach just creates an immunity to him. Wikipedia needs its own blockade-breeching flotilla, where Jimbo's response is so appallingly ill-thought out that the world finally takes notice. The Porn Saga got close. Perhaps some really crass reporting of the Cumberland shootings would help.

Although a perfect game on the books is nothing to sneer at I think that's right. "We've been robbed" has a great tradition in baseball. I heard Ken Burns comment on the matter last night. He thinks Galarraga will ultimately get the perfect game credited but only after much time passes and it doesn't signal a general loosening up on baseball's closet of wrongs. That's probably the best of all worlds to Galarraga.

Years ago, before the whole USA vs. Rest-of-world led to a criminal prosecution of their CEO (if memory serves), PokerRoom.com used to let you invite together a table of player-friends for a tournament for cash, but there was still the dreaded rake.

I don't even want to open my mouth about the laws that surround any online gaming. I'm not qualified, they're too nebulous anyway, and I disagree with most of them.

As for Gallaraga, I got that all out of my system on Facebook the night it happened. In the aftermath, both Jim Joyce and Armando have conducted themselves in the most upstanding and respectful ways you could ever imagine, along with (for the most part) the fans in Detroit. And, yes, I remember in early 1983 when Milt Wilcox gave up a hit to the 27th batter.

Gallaraga will get his own Wikipedia biography, plus an article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armando_Galarraga%27s_near-perfect_game to this one game, even if this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Tsutarja494 (who is obviously just a trolling account) tried to have it deleted.
