With all the talk about what Jimbo does and doesn't do, I started thinking about User:Jimbo Wales as an editor/admin without all of the other stuff thrown in.
His stats make interesting reading. Does he really have so few edits in total? Blood_Diamond_(film) - 4 edits 25. Goshen,_Indiana - 4 edits I guess somebody really got pissed about the review of BonziBUDDY, the helper you can't tell from malware (think of an MS paperclip that spies on you). QUOTE I have radically stubbed the article, and cleared out the old discussion. The article was, quite frankly, an embarassment to us. Extremely bold negative claims, backed up with no sources. Quite frankly, several of the people who contributed to the article should be banned from coming near a keyboard until they have learned to engage in proper encyclopedia writing. Well. Enough of my ranting. The deal is: this article needs to be rewritten, with very careful line-by-line sourcing to legitimate mainstream publications for every claim. The claims should not be made BY wikipedia, but should instead be ATTRIBUTED to the sources.--Jimbo Wales 11:30, 7 September 2006 (UTC) Marc Lemire is a Canadian who has been accused of being a neo-Nazi, white supremicist, anti-semite, and a hater of poodles. Jimbo did something with the article, but I can't figure out what. We all know Jeff Merkey-- discussed here on WR. All these are BLP problems where somebody was really unhappy with WP. Not least Jimbo about his own bio, but naturally he fixed that up a lot. Houston_McCoy is a policeman famous for just one thing: shooting (or co-shooting?) the Texas tower sniper in the early 60's. He's a posterchild for why WP shouldn't be writing BLPs of people. And so on. I can't take much more of this, so I'm going to quit. I would like to know if Jimbo can properly format an academic reference and notes list of cites himself on a WP article, without handholding. I don't see any evidence he's ever done the core thing which he harps about making WP, an encyclopedia. Which I suppose should not be surprising. I'm beginning to get a feel for this guy. |

My personal favourite:
15. List_of_messianic_movement_leaders - 5 edits All he really appears to do, by the stats, is answer comments on his talk page. Surely he has a sock for edits that could generate heat? |

Why's he editing Phenothiazine; an anti-psychotic drugl? Well, not an anti-psychotic drug per se, but a structure found in a lot of anti-psychotic drugs. I've been prescribed drugs with this structure to treat me for extreme vertigo before, so it's not an uncommon one in medicine. |

He basically converted a stub containing a simpler table with no example drugs for each class: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=...e&oldid=7443608 To a more complex table with linked example drugs and some additional info. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=...e&oldid=7987093 Without citing any references. Old Doc Jimbo. Gotta remind him to put them dang cites in.That said, I have to admit he improved the article. A bit. |

Yes they give them for anxiety too but I'd say people might know them more as anti-psychotic drugs. Strange he hasn't edited any similar articles to the same extent, and chose this one in particular. It would be easy to 'do a Peter Damian' about it ![]() |

Any evidence in his edits that Jimbo has read a book, versus him just finding stuff using Google?

Jesus, that Marc Lemire article is a disgrace. Trigger happy "IT'S NOTABLE! KEEP KEEP KEEP T3H LIBELZ!" editors, sadly, make it ineligble for speedy deletion. The elephant in the BLP room is that having a BLP with a lot of ugly stuff in it is often used as a fully sanctioned WP "punishment" for antisemitism, either real or perceived. We've mentioned that the 2nd-most edited outside-WP subject article on en.wiki is Adolf Hitler (right after the one on United States). There is a whole Wiki on Mel Gibson's antisemitic comments during a drunk driving arrest. Accusations of antisemitism have kept this Lemire article alive. And most of Chip Berlet's contributions, too, as though an infusion of Herbert West reanimation juice, or a jolt of electricity from Dr. Frankenstein's equipment. And did not Slimey herself use this kind of thing to make the long dead and dusty Martin Luther walk again, like unto the Golum? One of these days this kind of thing is going to backfire on somebody. This very forum was cleaned out in its early days by such accusations, and barely survived. But cryers of "wolf!" as has been mentioned, risk not being listened to when the day comes that they finally meet a wolf. This post has been edited by Milton Roe: Sat 9th August 2008, 1:06am |

The Hitler article actually has a better track record for a better neutrality and sourcing quality than most anti-semites, mostly because Hitler is so high-profile. I'm pretty sure it, along with the article for Saddam Hussein, are actually used as poster children for how to enforce NPOV on delicate subjects such as racism. I think more of these articles should be brought to people's attention; after the quality of the Stormfront article was brought up to me, I started pushing for neutrality. Now, it's a GA. I'm still a bit squeamish about the use of "white supremacist" in the lead section, but it's a payoff for the increased quality overall. |

I remember he used to say that he chose not to edit articles normally because of how his special status could affect the normal editing process. I don't know if that was honest or just an excuse for laziness, but it is actually a pretty good reason; given that Jimbo insists on maintaining dictatorial powers, people would be afraid to edit his articles in any way that might upset him. He also used to claim that he had an obscure sockpuppet which he occasionally used to engage in normal editing--however, considering that when he does edit he often appears completely out of touch with accepted editing practices, I find it hard to believe he does much editing under any account.

I'm surprised he didn't even edit much in the beginning. That seems odd to me. I mean sole founder and all. You think he would have put some greater effort into it. It's like he was just the financial half of a partnership with someone or something like that...

2. Jimmy_Wales - 19 edits Anyone else would have been banned by now. Depends on what they typed. Actually, they would - editing an article with the same name as your username is considered promotional and prohibited by the username policy. I doubt that this would be applied to established users though. |
