QUOTE(Moulton @ Fri 30th July 2010, 7:20am) QUOTE(gomi @ Thu 29th July 2010, 7:47pm) The difference between Slim Virgin and the Smallpox Virus is that the Smallpox Virus has been eradicated, rendering it currently less pernicious than Slim Virgin. I remember reading, in Scientific American, an article entitled " The Eradication of Smallpox" explaining exactly how they did it. I still get goosebumps of admiration for the scientists who pulled off that astounding feat. Smallpox is not even listed on infectious anymore.

QUOTE(The Joy @ Thu 29th July 2010, 7:56pm) And because you said that, she's going to go crazy again and claim you outed her poodle. That or she'll join the Climate Change Arb case and make your life even more of a living hell, if that's possible. Oh, I don't know. So far her input has been apt. And helpful. IMHO anyway. If SV points out there's a cabal, er, faction, active in an area, and describes their antics, er, tactics... seems to me that's pretty compelling evidence there is one in and of itself. QUOTE(Somey @ Fri 30th July 2010, 3:50am) Still, the best results might actually be obtained by not comparing her to any disease whatsoever. I realize this may seem counterintuitive to some of our members...
Exactly. Comment on the contributions, not the contributor, and all that. There's no need for comparing people to diseases.

QUOTE(gomi @ Fri 30th July 2010, 12:02pm) QUOTE(Lar @ Fri 30th July 2010, 6:16am) Exactly. Comment on the contributions, not the contributor, and all that. There's no need for comparing people to diseases. Indeed. If only Wikipedia editors, admins, and other functionaries would do the same, there would be less need for this Review. Indeed. If only everyone in the whole wide world would do the same, there would be less need for a lot of things! (that is NOT meant as a sarcastic comment in any way) QUOTE(Moulton @ Fri 30th July 2010, 10:02am) What about comparing them to trolls? Is that still kosher?
Only if the trolls (if male) had a briss. QUOTE(chrisoff @ Fri 30th July 2010, 10:06am) Could you elaborate, succinctly? wading through the history and the talk page didn't help much.

And that is why the whole hate the game, baby, not the playas notion fails in practice. In all fairness, though, I never thought Slim Virus was ever the root of all Wiki-evil. A nasty piece of work to be sure, who really needs to eat some red meat and get laid. But others are much more worthy of the title and The Review has devoted far more attention to her than she truly deserves. Largely because she is an easy, high profile target who fights back and manages to piss off all the wrong people. Now take that hat & false nose off her and let her down from the scales.

(that is NOT meant as a sarcastic comment in any way) Human history is a battle over resources, for your "family" and your genes. Anybody else who wants some of those resources, is likely to be seen as a disease. People lie to themselves about this, all the time. One of the more ironic moments in The Matrix comes when Mr. Smith, who is himself the ultimate parasite (turns out in the end he's a parasite program of a parasite program), likens humanity to a "virus." Gosh, we really make Mr. Smith sick.

QUOTE(RDH(Ghost In The Machine) @ Fri 30th July 2010, 10:43am) In all fairness, though, I never thought Slim Virus was ever the root of all Wiki-evil. I never said that either. But every time she's shown up here, she's displayed a remarkably arrogant and thickheaded demeanor, and a talent for being totally convinced of her rightness and everyone else's wrongness. Every attempt to "discuss" an issue with her, so far as I can remember, has come to naught--people give up in frustration, and she goes away just as smug as ever. Remember when she was desysopped for six months? She came to WR, and made a pest of herself. As soon as her admin power was restored, she ditched WR and went right back to her maniac Wiki-muddling.

I never said you did, either. When she lost her admin wand for a very rare display of doing the right thing by undoing a punitive Giano block, I held out slim hopes that she had pulled a Kelly or Danny and escaped from the Compound. As usual, my optimism proved short-lived. Perhaps a more pertinent way to frame this discussion would be- Is SV and her like a virus and Wikimedia just the petri dish that allows them to thrive? Or are they merely the symptoms and WP is the disease?

Or are they merely the symptoms and WP is the disease? I'd say both of those analogies are rather tortured, but to each his own... I still prefer the "lake of shit" analogy, since you can differentiate between people who are submerged, or "hip-deep," or just "getting their feet wet" (or dirty, as the case may be). Also, the people themselves don't have to be the actual shit, etc., etc. Diseases are basically just cells that reproduce and attach themselves to living organisms to do it. I figure many Wikipedians probably try to reproduce, and I'm sure some of them succeed at it (not that this is necessarily something to be proud of), but you've got to believe that a signifcant percentage are using artificial insemination to get the job done.
