It's been a slow day, so I've knocked off another item on my to-do list. Until today, posters wishing to to add working links to Wikipedia articles from their posts here had to use either the "[url]" or "[wp]" tags, and if using the somewhat easier [wp] tag, had to replace all spaces in the article title or user name with underscores. The board tried to hide the aesthetically-unpleasing result by underlining the link's text. As of now, however, underscores are no longer necessary - the board will replace spaces for the URL portion of the link automatically, while leaving them in place in the display portion.
In addition, two new BBCode tags have been added for the convenience of our awesomely wonderful and beloved readers: [wpuser] and [wparticle].
Linking to a Wikipedia user name with [wpuser] will produce links to the user's Wikipedia user page, talk page, contributions, logs, and a "K" link to
en.wikichecker.com (beta). Here's what this looks like for
Jimbo WalesÂ
(T-C-L-K-R-D)
.
Likewise, linking to a Wikipedia article with [wparticle] will produce links to the article, the article's talk page, its revision history, its logs, and the WikiChecker again. The article on
Wikipedia Review (T-H-L-K-D) would be a good example, if the article still exists when you read this.
Existing BBCode usages of [wp] and [wikipedia] will still work, but are no longer underlined in text. Also, the [wikipedia] tag is now equivalent to [wparticle].
