<snip the ravings of a man who sees porn in family pictures with naked children in them>
Move along, nothing to see here.
@Ottava: Don't you have a dissertation to finish?
P.S. Q: What does the English major says to the business major?
A: "Would you like fries with that, sir?"

Nothing sexual or pornographic? Really? Here are ten "non-sexual" quotes:
1. "she insane, her mind ain’t good because the penis done ejaculated all in her brain"
2. "I bend women like a pretzel and give them the gratification they need."
3. "that's why yo hooked on da penis" "and let me cum in the back door"
4. "can I just state that I have never given my penis to anyone" "I don't trust anyone I've slept with to give it back."
5. " SALUTE THE PUSSY""I AM IN CONTROL OF THE PUSSY"
6. "either that or penises will attack me every day."
7. "I'll get you a rectum full of semen"
8. "she insane, her mind ain’t good because the penis done ejaculated all in her brain"
9. "I bend women like a pretzel and give them the gratification they need."
10. "man, no one told me i could be wanking at work"
This is a room with children, mind you.

Dunno what to tell you, Ott. That's dead typical of what you see on IRC channels all the time.
Trolls love IRC, because (usually) they can rant as they wish and not get kicked--if the channel
is being run by themselves or friends.
(That's a good description of Wikipedia. An IRC channel posing as an "encyclopedia".)

Yes, you. Now shut down that IRC channel and do your homework.
Seriously, Ottava, you should not be looking at this stuff, it will drive you crazy. Technically, crazier, but that's another story. Finish your dissertation, this is all a device to distract you from that. Don't fall for it.

The #wikipedia channel on freenode has almost nothing to do with Wikipedia. It is, instead, a haven for trolls and malcontents, many of whom are banned from Wikipedia itself (and some even banned from here). It's extraordinarily rare for there to be a discussion of something actually related to Wikipedia in there. In short, it's IRC.

Ottava,
You should leave the internet and never come back. You are ill suited to it.

I never understand why the Catholic Church and its clergy would be patrons to Renaissance artists who loved the naked figures of men and women (and even children). Why invest so much into art that was not holy and fully-clothed? Renaissance art we see today would not have been possible without the Catholic Church.

I hope you realize that 1. many clergy hated art in general and felt that it was barbaric or unseemly and 2. many art historians lament the prudishness of the church for covering up genitalia of statues that later resulted in the bits breaking off.
As Alison's article describes, those like Mikey slipped in various bits of nudity to piss off the Church.
P.S., I laughed at this line in the article: "As historian Giorgio Vasari recalls," I guess the guy must have been really, really old to recall that event.

Interesting. I watched
The Agony and the Ecstasy (film) (T-H-L-K-D) and I remember the scene where Michelangelo is arguing with a certain priest about "modesty" and whether painting the human form was backed by the Bible or not. I guess that was Cesena? What I find so strange is how the Catholic Church (save for those like Cesena and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonfire_of_the_Vanities) would embrace the humanism of the Renaissance and invest heavily in it despite some of the more "immodest" and radical ideas coming out of it. Normally, the Catholic Church is very resistant to change and contemporary culture. I do recommend watching
Simon Schama's Power of Art (T-H-L-K-D) and its analysis of Caravaggio and Bernini. Strange people, those Renaissance artists and patrons!
I doubt that Wikipedia's IRC will be painted on a church ceiling anytime soon, though.
I do wonder what Ottava thinks of art like the
Ecstasy of Saint Teresa (T-H-L-K-D)?
