AFAIK, Bahamut left the service at some point in the past year. He speaks on his blog about 'his last day in uniform'.

Since he hadn't updated his blog or edited Wikipedia since May, he must have been sick. If so, I won't speculate on the nature of it, although what he says on his userpage may provide a clue.
