QUOTE(One @ Sat 20th December 2008, 6:47pm) *

"I will simply strongly discourage private votes of any kind." "I will simply state that I will be strongly inclined to overturn on appeal any decision of the ArbCom that did not include a public discussion and vote."

"I request the new ArbCom to reflect on and discuss the creation of a method for the community recall of unpopular ArbCom members. ... I would like to see a procedure in place by the time of the next election."

Very good news across the board, I think.

Let you be the first to congratulate you.

Perhaps community recall of CheckUsers and admins in general can also be considered?

Oh you're kidding right? Admins, and especially checkusers, are not able to be recalled.

Remember 'Elonka's recall'? What a farce 'recall' turned out to be! The "recall business" is a total sham, no doubt.

For once, I have to give Jimbo credit; by calling for transparency in decision-making, as well as suggesting a mid-year election and a recall process for arbitrators, he has gone far beyond what I ever would have expected from him.

Jimbo doesn't want to decide when the appointments should take effect, leaving that in the ArbCom's hands...hopefully they will make it immediate.

Seem to be good results.

I supported 6 of the 10 "winners" so that's a reasonable batting average. The other 4 may turn out fine too.

As for Jimbo's call for openness, that's excellent. I called for that last year. There should be a presumption against closed communications - although they will certainly be necessary at times.

I'm less sure about the recall thing. It will tend to politicise arbcom further, as if arbs sanction the wrong vested users they may build up sufficient enemies to be recalled. There may be something to be said for "judicial tenure". But, as ever, the devil is in the detail.

There's also the soft-centred ones. Very popular, but ultimately go squishy when it gets too hot.

However, it could be worse. We could have elected some Turkish delight.

Yes, Turkish-Wapanese. And I never got to ask him WTF he gave himself 0-ability user boxes for Arabic and Hebrew. Well, the less Anime in the world the better, is my thought.

Looks fine to me. It follows the results fairly.

I also approve the rationale and comments - and said so, too. Jimbo has surprised me, here, by the clue shewn - his performance with the tools this last year had not indicated such an appreciation of the growing demands of the community. It may be that there are other voices he listens to, and that is never a bad thing for even the most enlightened of "leaders".

I am pleasantly surprised.
