Middlebury College history students are no longer allowed to use Wikipedia in preparing class papers. The policy says, in part, "Wikipedia is not an acceptable citation, even though it may lead one to a citable source."

When it comes to doing research, many students see Wikipedia.org as a nifty, useful tool. But some college professors believe that it can cause more harm than good.

While I strongly agree that Wikipedia has not been accepted by the academic community due to its free and open nature and any student who pays attention should know this, I take issue with the resolution to ban it as a source. What are your professors scared of? Please tell me an open source online encyclopedia doesn't actually threaten you.
