QUOTE(Hushthis @ Tue 30th May 2006, 1:10pm) *

I volunteered to act as a moderator in this media forum, which means I am one of the people who gets alerted when somebody reports a post as possibly innappropriate. I received such a message about this article.

Sorry, it was me who sent the message. I was just thinking it should go to "less relevant" rather than flagging it as inappropriate.

You did the right thing in moving it. For it quoted Wikipedia and did not focus on it.
We, in Israel, are used to this kind of rhetoric. I can spend hours discussing this but that is not the purpose of this forum. What I will add is that I object to Wikipedia calling Hamas and Islamic Jihad "militants" rather than terrorists. When you murder civilians for political gain, it is terrorism. By using the word "militants" Wiki wants to come off appearing "balanced" leaving room for an interview with Islamic Jihad or Osama bin-Laden. And from that perspective we have the NSA through the US State Department stating that Wikipedia encourages free speech. What I see is the NSA encouraging the monsters out there to contribute - and that is fine with me as long as they get cuffed ;>

As long as people know that "militant" in this context is usually a synonym for "terrorist", that's fine. Problem is that trade union leaders who call out their members on strike are also called "militants", which is quite a broad spectrum for one word to cover.
