This guy needs to learn to be successful on WP in creating your own BLP, you need to go the Gary Weiss route: create your own BLP under an alias.

Is there anything really to discuss here?

Is there anything really to discuss here?

From http://www.rogerjameshamilton.com/About.asp:

QUOTE
Roger believes that we learn from our mistakes, and he has made plenty of them. He has made and lost millions on numerous occasions. In fact, he calculates that he lost over $130 million in mistakes in the first ten years of his entrepreneurial career.

So if he learns from this mistake, will he stay away from WP in future, or continue with this exercise in sheer futility?

Also, I calculate that he probably lost about 130 million brain cells in the first ten minutes of his Wikipedia career.

Any theories on Jimbo's interest in starting an article for deletion? In my experience with Gary Weiss's alias army, almost every AFD was personal, with several follow up AFD's on random articles to create an illusion of "just happened to be in the AFD neighborhood and..."

It's discussed directly in the AfD. The creator of the article went and made http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Jimbo_Wales&diff=prev&oldid=442481088 on Jimbo's talk page, which prompted him to make the AfD. Sadly, there's no conspiracy behind this one.

Sadly, there's no conspiracy behind this one.

That is sad. Moreover, this represents a failure on WR's part to do effective outreach. We're clearly not getting the message out to people like this that they should avoid Wikipedia at all costs if they care about their reputations, their integrity, and their valuable time. (Or, the valuable time of their PR agencies.)

Besides, if Mr. Hamilton really wants to have a WP article about himself, why is he wasting his time giving seminars about becoming wealthy and running businesses? All he has to do is appear in a Doctor Who episode... How hard can that be?

So all one has to do to get an AFD started is to complain to Jimmy Wales, the head honcho of Wikipedia, and he'll go through the quite tedious process of starting an AFD. Huh.

Wasn't implying a conspiracy, that involves more than one person.

Just interested in why he'd bother. That someone posted it on his talk page isn't an answer in most cases.

I think next time Mr Hamilton will start an account using a name of an obscure 1940's film star, then write a badly written Auto BLP.

After all, he is an "author". Must be notable, right? Gary Weiss is an author. So anyone who is a published author is notable. Using WP logic of course

He was probably just bored... of course, I'm assuming you're asking why he would have bothered as opposed to doing nothing, when the question could just as easily be interepreted as asking why he would have bothered as opposed to just deleting the article immediately.

In the former case, it's clear he's exasperated about PR firms who don't understand how "his" site works, and in the latter, WP:AUTO and WP:CSD don't allow for "speedies" on autobiographies - though maybe they should. So he actually followed the accepted procedure, whether or not the procedure is logical or practical.

WP:CSD does allow for speedies on "unambiguously" promotional articles, but that may not apply in this case - close, but not quite.

I think the real trick is to show up at a Scientologists' charity ball for global warming with a cute (and of course gay) Israeli porn star on his elbow wearing a pokemon tie clip, and give a speech (in Klingon) to the Tea Party table about the virtues of professional wrestling. rolleyes.gif
