What I alluded to in the following post has been brought to the attention of http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest/Noticeboard&diff=prev&oldid=179577827#Alternative_theories_of_the_bombing_of_Pan_Am_Flight_103.2FPatrick_Haseldine by the S. African editor http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Contributions&limit=500&target=Socrates2008, who's turned into something of an SPA.

While he was http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard&oldid=170006349#Privatemusings on AN while trying to build another case against Privatemusings, JzG has another sock in his sights.
He's taken a keen interest in Pan Am Flight 103 related articles that have been edited by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Phase4, after it was pointed out here that Phase4 had http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:SlimVirgin&diff=169256685&oldid=169254895 Slim's talk page.

Here's a clue for you, Guy. He's not a sock of a banned user, he's a former diplomat with extensive experience in the articles he edits.
Haseldine is a chief proponent of the theory that http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alternative_theories_of_the_bombing_of_Pan_Am_Flight_103#South-West_Africa_.28Namibia.29 for the bombing.

Interesting that WP:COIN is semi-protected to stop new users reporting any CoI.

Phase4 http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log&type=block&page=User:Phase4 as a sockpuppet of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/PJHaseldine i.e. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Haseldine. I wonder what all the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Phase1, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Phase2, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Phase4 stuff was about...?

We can't have people who know what they're talking about edit controversial articles!

It was pretty clear that those users were the same person, or at least related. They made little attempt to obfuscate the fact, and I haven't seen anything particularly disruptive or misleading in their edits.
I also think the theory of South Africa's involvement in the bombing is more compelling than that of Libya's. I'm now very curious about the motivations and identity of Socrates2008 and his tag team partner http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Deon_Steyn. Their edits show an interest in South Africa military history and weapons.

There was a http://wwwserver.law.wits.ac.za/listserv/archives/saimmigold/msg00424.html recorded as being commanding officer of the Kruger Park unit of the South Africa National Defence Force in 1998. A Colonel Steyn was commanding officer of Robben Island where Mandela was imprisoned but I'm guessin that's not the same one. There is Colonel Ben Steyn who is an expert on chemical and biological weapons.
EDIT: I think the commander of Robben Island was Colonel, later General Johannes Steyn.

Steyn is a common Afrikaans surname, though Deon Steyn might be rarer.

Good job, JzG! Way to keep http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Haseldine in his place.

It's seems a bit arrogant to characterize a person as "nonsense".
