No real dispute triggered it, though the ongoing issue of BLPs played a large role. He has a notice up on his userpage about why he retired though.

Admins who say they retire but keep the tools haven't really retired at all. It's like retiring from a real job, but keeping the keys and the combination to the safe.

I imagine that his "day job" requires his complete and undivided attention -- or maybe he grew a brain? Whatever, it is no great loss. He brought absolutely nothing of value to Wikipedia, and he will probably only be remembered for that idiotic borrow-the-mop fiasco with Steve Crossin in 2008.

I imagine that his "day job" requires his complete and undivided attention -- or maybe he grew a brain? Whatever, it is no great loss. He brought absolutely nothing of value to Wikipedia, and he will probably only be remembered for that idiotic borrow-the-mop fiasco with Steve Crossin in 2008.
How very Wikipedian to measure the departure of a young person in terms of the impact on that sorry site. Of course he brought nothing of value and neither does anyone else. If he sticks to quitting he will "be remembered" by the people that occupy the more important aspect of his life and not some silly drama you like to harp upon. Good luck to the kid.
