What that was all about was Badmachine had a penis pic on his page (he's partial to them, what can I say?) and this pic was removed under WP:UP I was struck by the incongruity of the fact that penises on userpages were verboten on Wikipedia, but the things are rampant, if you'll pardon, on Commons. They're pretty much everywhere you look, in fact. So I was having a wry chuckle over all that. More Wiki-hypocrisy

Also, Drmies appears to have a sense of humor, something which is lacking in so many others on WP.

I would actually agree with the statement that I am making up right now, "If it's inappropriate for an image from Commons to be on your userpage, then it is inappropriate for that image to be on Commons".

No. You wouldn't. Neither would I. Neither, I guess, would most of the folks who think Commons has too much homemade porn. The WP article on "penis" should probably have at least one picture of a penis -- let's ignore the fact that some people don't want the reader to be able to hide that image if they so choose -- but that doesn't mean it is appropriate on a user page.

I think it would be fun to go to Commons and make a Modest Proposal:

"I believe there are too many penis pictures. I would like to propose that we set a hard limit: no more than 15,000 pictures of human penises at any given time. If someone wishes to upload an additional penis, it must be compared against the existing catalog, and if it does not improve in any way (photo quality being just one of the possible metrics), it may not be included. If it DOES improve on the existing catalog, the lowest quality penis currently in the catalog must be cut."

One of two things (probably both) would happen: (1) the Commoners would quickly swarm in and object loudly to any limits whatsoever, even an absurdly high one like 15,000 penises, and (2) an admin would block the proposer for trolling and delete the proposal.

Ideally someone like Larry Sanger would be the proposer for maximum lulz and/or press coverage.

user pages are browsed with an expectation that they are SFW. OTOH, most people know by now that sexual topics on Wikipedia are typically NSFW, and therefore avoid those pages unless they have a good reason to be looking at those topics.

Incidentally, Mbz1, I do love the title for this thread.

It may not be perfect English, but it has a certain mellifluence, especially the way I imagine it being spoken (i.e. by Natasha to Boris in a Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoon.)

There was a big push on en.wp around 2006-2007 or so to get rid of userpage material generally, especially but not only userboxes. If it had been more successful, Wikipedia might have driven away those who were there to, shall we say, express themselves. I'd suggest that if it wouldn't be found in a professors' office, it shouldn't be on a userpage. Unfortunately my viewpoint didn't carry the day. Anyway, I think nothing like this ever happened on commons; it would be utterly alien to their way of thinking.

Anyone who's anyone has a penis. Don't you have one? I have several. No-one collects stamps, or butterflies, or pictures of boring old trains anymore. My favourite penis is a fine Ming-dynasty ceramic "thingy" in its own teak presentation box inlaid with silver filigree (the box, not the penis). I suggest you begin collecting immediately.

As for your main question - yes, Wikipedia does indeed look as http://images.codingforcharity.org/dmp/20101209/Baboon-Ass_20101209184304_reg.jpg. So few people on this site are able to make such astute observations. Cheers.
