While researching Protonk (T-C-L-K-R-D)
's history, I came across his Slashdot user ID. Not a very active user there.
In the comments of this story, he said the following about Larry Sanger: QUOTE Do we have any good reason to trust Sanger as anything other than a provocateur? What is the meat of the analysis? That open editing and cooperation is what explains wikipedia's success? I'll agree with him there. And that control of articles or processes by internal "experts" is damaging to that open editing and cooperation? I'll take two, please. He's the big problem. Protonk restored the Peter Tobin BLP, despite it being a very controversial article. Apparently with the full approval of his little BLP Slut, Gwen Gale. QUOTE I guess I should clarify that I feel the article should be undeleted. Wikipedia falls under US Law. Not Scottish law. Or Russian Law. Or Sharia. And the "jury could see this" argument is weak tea. Presuming that scottish juries can get to the internet, wikipedia should by definition not be the only place they can find this information. Protonk (talk) 17:43, 1 December 2008 (UTC) Hates flagged revs. BLP extremist, a la JoshuaZ. He seems quite sociopathic with regard to the harm WP can cause to people. QUOTE Exactly.Just like the risk of editors in china being thrown in jail for logging into wikipedia articles isn't worth changing the 'pedia. Protonk (talk) 18:59, 6 December 2008 (UTC) Predictably, he hates Peter Damian and Giano. And seems to like Stifle. Such a nice young man. Such a dick. Not a very good debater, judging by this thread. Has not logged into WR since April. He's definitely a member of the whole "wiki-is-god and must contain all knowledge, defamation is not important, we are legion" gang. Along with Gale, Nihiltres, Xeno ( ),Skomorokh, Matt Yeager, Aitias, Hipocrite, Tznkai, and a few others. Their on-wiki activities tend to be low-key, but extremely arrogant, destructive of privacy and lacking tolerance for others. The more I see of this small gang of relatively new admins, the more Cabally they look. At least they aren't quite as well-organized as the old SV/Jayjg crew. (That's a joke, son.) I have clues to his identity, if anyone is interested. |

Protonk is a terrible admin – his RfA was one of the those true jaw-dropping happenings where you are left wondering if everyone threw their brains away in the rush to raise him to button pushing glory. I cannot name a single worthwhile contribution that he has made to Wikipedia, though I am aware of some off-Wiki dirt that confirms his bully-boy status.

I cannot name a single worthwhile contribution that he has made to Wikipedia Then you clearly have not looked very hard. He has, according to his userpage, written some decent articles in his time. As Truman Capote supposedly said: that's not writing, that's typing. ![]() |

Fast inverse square root, for one. And yet, ever since he got the admin button in October, he's done almost nothing except drive Twinkle all over the place, and especially, argue with others on AN, AFD and other WP: pages. It took him only from April to October to become an admin. Rather quick, don't you think? Is it possible that he was doing a lot of work under other names or IPs before April? |

I just looked at the original version that Protonk put online and that is clearly not how Protonk writes. I don't know the source of the text, but I would put money on the table that something fishy is going on with that. |

It's not uncommon for people to write differently in their article work than in more conversational venues. See, for example, Giano, who has written ten featured articles but has trouble writing a sentence without comma splices in project space. |

But there is a difference -- Giano's work gets cleaned up along the way. This case, we have the opposite -- a clean text in the project space, not a sloppy one. I wasn't looking at the current edition of the article, I was looking at the version that Protonk took out of his sandbox. That version is not Protonk's writing. I am familiar with Protonk's writing and it is impossible to believe that he wrote that. |

Personally, I'm too lazy to go readin' through either the old or new version, but to each his (or her or its) own. |

Really, there were no edits by anyone other than Protonk until he moved it out of his sandbox (I ignore the possibility of oversighted edits, as I don't consider them remotely likely in this situation), so the cleanup and expansion that happened between the two versions was done by Protonk himself. I do agree that the beginning of the sandbox was rather sloppy and uncomprehensive, but I don't see any reason to jump to any conclusions because of it (I'm open to evidence, though). |

No "evidence" per se - I am just saying that I know Protonk and it is completely out of character for him to come up with this type of article. I don't know what off-Wiki help he had or whether the text was "borrowed" from other sources. Ultimately, I don't care since he is not an admin of the Piotrus/Marine 69-71 ilk who actually concentrates on writing and only rarely uses his buttons. |
